Means that if the efficiency is 100%, as long as the sun is up, the maximum load it can carry is 30W between 9am and 5pm (8 Hours)
If there is no NEPA (Mains Electricity), it means you can use 60W of power for 4 Hours OR 120W for 2 Hours

I started using it by plugging my laptop(65W) to it. Within 40 minutes, it ran down from 100 to 0.
I unplugged the laptop and plugged my power bank to it. I also plugged one of its bulbs to it. It finally died after a little over 2hrs of it being on 0.

I charged it with AC power and plugged my OX fan(95W) to it alone. The fan was struggling on level 1 and was making sound, I had to disconnect it.

The seller said that’s the capacity of the battery and it is normal. If I wan’t it to last a longer duration, I should buy a external battery of a higher capacity.

Please with what I observed, is the draining normal? The battery percentage was draining by just switching on the inverter and not plugging anything to it.

Assuming the battery is working 100% perfectly (it can't do that by the way)

- 12v @12AH -> 144wh

- Laptop 65w running 40 mins -> 43.33wh (less than half the inverter battery capacity, also account for some inefficiency losses)

- The inverter probably shutdown at a cut off voltage to prevent damage and didn't actually run to zero (even though you couldn't use it)
- Are you exaggerating the short runtime with the laptop alone? You should get more runtime with this calculation
- Don't bother plugging that fan, inverter is likely a modified sine-wave, fans like pure sine-waves
- Inverter noticeably draining the battery without plugging anything means it has a high idle consumption (this consumption is also taken out of the battery and contributes to why you can't charge the laptop for long)


In short, you've wasted money on a badly designed and built device. If you have the option to return it, do so, up your budget, go to the nairaland fta / diy solar forum and ask for "sapa solar / inverter setup"

I bought it solely for laptop and phone charging. If I knew this is how it would turn out, I wouldn’t have bought anything at all as I’m on a tight budget.

Now, I have to augment this one as I’m currently not financially buoyant.
How can I enhance this to allow me charge my laptop? What capacity of external battery should I get? How about the solar panel?

Power banks are Vampires. They will drain the hell out of your battery. Have you asked yourself why it takes days for Power bank to get full? Charging Laptop is less power consuming to Power bank.

I have used several portable inverters due to my job. Note: try as much as possible to stop using AC appliances on it. Use only DC and it will last. Portable inverters aren't that strong with AC outputs..
