.. majority of our people, you mean. It just summarises the mindset of most of our people when they get into politics, regardless of whatever humble beginnings they may've had.

Las las he wouldn't be re elected. He really didn't have to change party if he was seeking re-election. All he needed to do was to perform excellent in the capacity he was elected in; serving his people.
