According to an analyst in Al jazeera, Iran spent over $20B in over 30 years on Weapons and training/maintaining of it's proxy militants in Syria & Lebanon.
Israel has successfully destroyed all the weapons and killed a lot of the militants.

It all depends ɓro,politics will always be politics.
If this guy turns a new leaf and succeeds in unifying Syria (not necessarily Imposing himself as president) you will see the same US downplaying all that in the future, except of course if he has Americans blood on his hands.
It all politics in the end.
America expends a lot of resources in maintaining peace in the middle east because of their sworn allies (isreal and Saudi Arabia) which is primary to any additional interests.
