The tomb of ousted Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s father has been burnt by rebel fighters.

Pictures show men circling the burning coffin of Hafez al-Assad, who ruled Syria for 29 years, after they stormed his mausoleum in the Assad family’s ancestral village of Qardaha, near Latakia.

Other footage showed the fighters posing with the flag of the revolution at the incinerated grave site before they dragged the coffin into a car park.

Bashar al-Assad was forced to flee Syria for Moscow on Sunday, when the rebel coalition forces entered Damascus, claiming victory in the Syrian civil war that had raged for nearly 14 years.

After taking control of the capital, fighters ripped down and burnt banners and portraits of the Assad family and dragged statues of their former rulers around with trucks.

Hafez al-Assad, a former air force pilot, was the president of Syria from 1971 until his death in 2000.

This is too bad, see what Assad's tyranny, brutality and high-handedness has caused.

I now understand why Assad ran away with his family to Russia, They would have killed him if he was caught.

But these rebels should pray Assad never comes back because he will teach them a lesson.

The circle of violence in the middle east will not end anytime soon

Russia really fall their hand in Syria.
Their over hyped hypersonic missile can't even win a war with rag tag militants. They had to flee deceiving the media & Putin fans that they are going for military exercise.

For those that are not aware, many years ago, Assad's father allowed Russia to have a military base in his country so they can protect his dynasty.

The greediness and the ineptitude of the Assad family is what invited and gave the so called rebels a chance to overthrow the government.

How long they'll rule is anyone's guess. But how can one family rule for half a century? When no be monarchy....

I'm not in support of the rebels but the Assad family brought this mayhem to their country.
