“We categorically refute the claims that OPay Digital Services was fined by the Central Bank of Nigeria to the tune of ₦1 billion for regulatory infractions,” OPay said in a statement to TechCabal. “These claims are entirely false.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
So this entire write up is just speculation?

Same Opay that was given a recognition award yesterday... Hummmm!

Meanwhile, all these Big for nothing commercial Banks might be behind all this FINE SHIT. They are afraid of the rate at which all the Fintech Banks are taking their customers.

Nigerians will not run to them if their original nigerian banks were doing as they should.

The Opay and co are a breath of fresh air, the convenience and even opportunities drives people to them, i use them but i put some limits, since they do not have physical offices.

With all this fine, here and there and all the money made in all sectors of the country ,

why is the country economic situations keep increasing ?

what we don't like about this e-banking like monie point, opay and co is that ,customers are at risk ,with no where visible to report or complain to ,if anything goes wrong with their account ,
and their online customer care is always out of services ,

Nigerians are seriously at risk with such banking methods ,

That's a hefty fine for a relatively small company, when compared to the commercial banks.
.. looks like an indirect taxation to me. undecided

One thing I have learned from Opay is, by sheer will, forward thinking and God's grace, we can turn adversity into stepping stones for greater things. I was among the first set of Opay users when they first made an appearance in Nigeria as a bike hailing app. My registration was so hectic, I almost gave up because I had to fill a physical form and submit together with a government issued ID card and utility bill. All for Uber okada. grin And I enjoyed their okada services while it lasted.

When the Lagos state government banned commercial bikes on the highway, we thought that was the end of the company. Like joke like joke, they eased away from bike hailing into financial services, with their app slowly metamorphosing with each update. From bike
hailing, they ventured into dispatch ride and parcel delivery services, and then financial services. And then Emefiele's inglorious reign of fiscal terrorism sealed their reputation.

The rest, as they say, is history.

Oh yes, I learned from them.

Honestly
Very fast transactions with almost zero fees.
I think these yeye banks are the ones fighting the fintechs through CBN because of their growing popularity. I can't see any reason by CBN for fining them such amount. They just want to frustrate them.

We won't hear CBN fine banks that are stealing customers funds with software upgrade, or banks that are harassing customers with dubious practices.
Fintech has come to stay, it is the future nothing can be done about it.
Kudos to Opay and moniepoint, they re innovators.
Traditional banks will go extinct soon.
