This "Japa" thing, eh? It’s not something anyone can fully explain to another person. People will always have opinions about the decisions you make, often forgetting that life is meant to be explored—whether in Nigeria or elsewhere. As someone who recently relocated, I can confidently say that both Nigeria 🇳🇬 and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 have their good, bad, and ugly sides. For example, in my opinion, unemployment in the UK feels almost nonexistent because there’s always something to do. The same applies to Nigeria, but the key difference is that in Nigeria, salaries often aren’t enough to sustain you. I’ve worked several low-level jobs in Nigeria—security guard, immunization staff, private school teacher, and customer service. With those jobs, the pay barely allowed me to feed comfortably. It wasn’t until I landed a data job paying about ₦800k that I started to feel like Nigeria wasn’t so bad after all. With that salary, I was living relatively well. However, I still chose to relocate because I wanted to explore international job markets, and I know I can always return to my Nigerian job if necessary. Here’s the thing: if you’re earning well from a job or business and can comfortably afford healthcare and other essentials, there’s no need to abandon all that just to “Japa,” unless you’re sure you can secure the same level of comfort abroad. But if you’re struggling in Nigeria and have a sponsor, bro, take the chance. The elite and politicians? They’ve got investments earning them foreign currency, so they don’t care if the naira collapses to ₦3,000 per dollar. Think about it—they have dual citizenships, foreign residency, or second passports. Trusting them to prioritize the country’s progress feels naive. Maybe I'll start trusting them when I start seeing results Relocation isn’t about running away; it’s about seeking better opportunities for growth. And remember, nobody tied you to one spot. If it’s not working in the UK, move back to Nigeria—or vice versa, if you have the means. Keep exploring. Life is flexible. |

Lol, UK is indeed a good country. If you work hard and focused you will achieve all Your dreams, UK is not for lazy people. If you put 1/4 of effort you put for survival in Nigeria, you will easy make it in the UK. It might be hard at the beginning but UK is far better than Nigeria and lots of other countries. Living in the Uk comes with kid be benefit. Good healthcare and security pansophist: |

When I keep saying Japa if you can and nothing will ever make me born or raise any of my children in Nigeria, people think I'm being proud. Here is heaven compared to Nigeria. Though they have there ups and down. Even your politicians and president prefer here thank Nigeria in holidays and medical care. |

GUNITGuy:You are naive. People had to fight for whatever rights they enjoy in those countries. They did not cry in church every weekend as Nigerians do. |

AbujaLagos:He is telling the truth. I have a friend here, he has yet to balance himself since he got there in March. He says bill and taxes will take all your money + feeding and transportation. If you skip work, salary will be deducted. We can be better than those countries, just that everything in Nigeria is bastardized |

Bea1234:You mentioned that your electricity supply was regular, yet you chose not to pay your bill. They disconnected your supply because of nonpayment of bills; which is fair enough. You would have ended up in jail if it was to be in any of the countries you mentioned. You express a desire for Nigeria to improve, but you preferred to avoid fulfilling your civic responsibilities. Can you honestly imagine living in any of those countries where essential services like electricity, water, and taxes are not paid for by the citizens? How do you think the governments of those countries are able to provide such high-quality services? The truth is, governance comes at a cost. Public services—whether it's infrastructure, healthcare, or education—are funded by taxes and the active participation of citizens. The prosperity of a nation relies on everyone contributing their fair share. For any country to thrive, its people must recognize that good governance requires resources, and those resources are provided through compliance with civic duties, including paying bills and taxes. |
