Fear "brief case" businessmen and women.

I can bet that the so called Omritas Energy is a one room office, where the woman uses her connections to get and execute contracts.

This is what happens in Nigeria with brief case companies. Some of them are also fraudulent. She would rather stay the two years in jail than to pay the N57m restitution.

If the court decides to wound up the company, they will find out that the company has no assets, except the certificate of registration with CAC. As the company is a limited liability company, the woman's personal assets may be protected, as the woman is seen as different from Omritas Energy in the eye of the law.
Hmm you're not far from the truth.

I would have preferred they cut her hands off...

She was sentenced to just 9 years imprisonment for count 1 with option of N2M fine! She go pay am!

In the end she go use only 2 years in Jail for counts 2 to 5 which runs concurrently!
And still pay the N56m! That's fair judgement, justice is done!
Kudos

The lawyers representing AYM Shada Ltd are not that smart. If I was the lead, I would press for restitution of the present value of the amount. N57,690,000 in 2016 will worth times 5 or more using inflation and other parameters. Then, I would press for payment of all court fees. This is how it is done.

This result is not so good.
Ozuo!!! So what happens to ur politicians that steal money meant for you and ur people? U are speechless but if it involves an ordinary citizen you will know how the law should act.

What of yahaya bello what should be done to him

I have a question.

Why is it so easy to jail ordinary citizens, but difficult to convict politicians?

If someone can get 17 years imprisonment for stealing less than 60m, then most of our politicians are supposed to rot permanently in jail.

It just does not add up.
This is the exact thing I said by mere reading the headline and someone will come and tell me that the judiciary system is not corrupt.

I bet you are not a lawyer. A lawyer cannot type this. Mind you, it was EFCC that prosecuted her.

I was in that court yesterday. Very robust and beautiful woman.
Only a financial lawyer understands what I have just written. You were only a spectator in the court yesterday and you don't understand the process. The beautiful woman is what you went to observe, so kindly shut up and don't mention me again.

The constitution gives them immunity, because of the office they occupy.

It's one of the reasons they are usually so desperate to stay in power.

What is the relationship of what you have written and what is on this thread?

When it comes to politicians, I will make my point too. Just shut the crap up.

Bcause Yahaya Bello and others are doing as they like, all Nigerians must do like same too with this your comment. You are sick. Instead of you to use this woman's case to speak out that Yahaya Bello and others must face the same as this woman, you are saying that this woman must also be free cos they are free. Honestly, you are ill.

Can you see how many sick people are in Nigeria? This is one. A beg...don't mention me again ooo. You are absolutely sick.

Hand cutting is barbaric. Slowly, fastly, or plusminusing. I know the sentences are to run concurrently, but I hope you saw the part where she's been asked to pay back the 50-something she stole.
Re: Lagos Bizwoman, Oluremi Phillips Jailed 17 Years For ₦‎57.6 Million Fraud by DeLaRue: 10:44am On Dec 13, 2024
From my analysis, if she pays N2 million within 90 days, she can avoid a 9 year jail term.

So, her total punishment is N2m (which I assume she will pay) plus 2 years in prison.

For defrauding someone of N54 million huh

Inadequate punishment.

Stealing is barbaric too!

The hand should be cut even if she returns the loot!

Yes, it is. At least, this type of stealing. So your position is that all of us, as a society, should turn barbaric because one fellow did something barbaric?

That's even if those only 2 years are not also with options of fine. But they will likely be, since bigger and more serious offences have the option of fine. Or what do you think, bros?

The judgement as it is will lure others to even steal more and get similar sentence. If one can fix such huge amount in banks you'll get a couple of millions extra to pay your bail and spend less or no time jail.

It is better to just cut off the hand that stole! No one will close to stealing!

Hmm. So someone needs two hands to embezzle money. Anyway, your position makes no sense. If she's paying back ALL she stole, plus fines and legal fees, it's a net loss. The years she will spend in jail, she won't be working and she will come out an ex-convict - meaning no bank will give her a loan, she can't serve in government, and it'll be hard for her to find work. All these, but I see you want more. You want her given a short sleeve. Hmm. I hope you found your own country so you can implement that and any other uncivilized law that tickles your fancy.

Meaning that at worst the maximum sentence she can bag is just two years fa. If not that one looks at the details and carefully calculate and interprete it, one would have been misled by the headline to think that dem don finish the woman patapata cheesy

Hmm. So someone needs two hands to embezzle money. Anyway, your position makes no sense.
I think it does makes more sense than yours. Anyone who takes drugs to Saudi Arabia or similarly inclined countries knows for sure he's losing his/her head if caught! That's the fear such punishment incite in an average mind! Unlike your favorite position where you can bail yourself out and spend less or even zero years in jail.

Even if she's paying back with fines and other added fees, it still does not make others afraid of towing the same way! And banks will determine who is credit worthy based on your assets, collateral and prospects. This single crime won't do much to that especially if the backs are involved in the act.

And i don't think i discussed anywhere with you that i was looking to establish a country before. Just because you hate something doesn't mean others will follow you in hating it. Some Governors were sentenced to some years imprisonment and were later granted Presidential pardon! Even this one can be granted same if she has the connections!
