The landlord is the owner of the property,he has the right to do whatever he wishes with it. He even informed you in advance about the increment,if you know you cannot afford it, you better start looking for another place before your money expires. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 7:37pm On Dec 13, 2024 |
Don't engage him at all.....just play along. When is time for renewal send 150k, tell him that what you have and if he reject tell him to send your money back, then he has to give you 3months to get another place. He wont have any choice than to take the 150k trust me. |

Bobodee09:Who told you all this... there's no free rent anywhere, even the three mouths he wanted to request for, he must pay for it. He should just settle with his landlord or move out. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by demoBaba: 10:08pm On Dec 13, 2024 |

Your landlord can increase your rent, so far he gave you 6 months notice. |

Take the Landlord to court |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 2:11am On Dec 14, 2024 |
demoBaba:Well I never knew you are his landlord.......if he doesn't pay kindly shot him since you are so pained. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Free2Fly: 7:01am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Viserion:On what ground exactly? Even if they signed any contract, it would be for the current annual rent. This increment is for the next annual rent which isn't covered by any previous contract signed And that 6months advance notice has solidified the landlord's position. He won't be found guilty in any way. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Nairalander248: 7:11am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:Who is this one? For person property? They even follow protocols to inform you ahead... This is not best advice... |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 7:15am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Nairalander248:So is own the property he should be increasing the rent every year without any major reason ![]() So if he pays 180 this year...next rent it will be increased to 210. From 130 to 150 to 180.....isn't that callous. Tenant also has there own right......only wicked people will support landlord increasing rent every year. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 7:18am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Free2Fly:So the landlord is right to increase rent every year?? |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Dtruthspeaker: 7:38am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:Yes! That is what it means when your kings did not provide you houses nor allow you to use God given Land to build your own house. |

| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Dtruthspeaker: 7:43am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:Tenants right only starts when you are a tenant. And the way to be a tenant is to pay the rent demanded by the landlord. So, yes it is wicked that rent is increased every year. however rent is based on the overall economy. and the availability of accommodation. So blame your kings who promised you "housing for all" since year 2000 and till today, nothing. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Nairalander248: 7:50am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:It's not by force to live in person house... Tenant has right only when the process were not followed... They gave you notice of increment 6months to the expiration of your rent, it's enough time to start looking for another place or you agree... When you build your own house, you can give it for free. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 7:51am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Dtruthspeaker:I hope you staying in your own house.....cos if you ain't then what a big shame. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 7:54am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Nairalander248:When I build my own house I wont be unreasonable to increase rent every year neither will I support such wickedness. When you build your own house you free to increase rent every 6months. If what I told him to do pain you so much and you feel so concerned feel free to use the nearest lagoon. |

People complaining about the landlord increases rent yearly so know that what you don't own you don't have power over it.probably he increased it because the tenant didn't pay a/c |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Free2Fly: 8:38am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:Agreements are signed yearly and are limited to that particular year. What happens in the succeeding year is none of the tenant's business His rights don't extend their, as long as he's given adequate time to make a choice. |

Abeg! Where in Nigeria today is the place the OP is talking about? N30,000 increment !!!! |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by AcadaWriter0: 9:14am On Dec 14, 2024 |
The landlord is the owner of the property and has the right to make decisions regarding it. He also informed you in advance about the increase. If you know you cannot afford it, it would be wise to start looking for another place before your funds run out. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Dtruthspeaker: 9:15am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Free2Fly:Wrong! Agreements run as long as the 2 parties are still having the relationship of landlord and tenant which is why it says "during the pendency of this tenancy". |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Free2Fly: 11:45am On Dec 14, 2024 |
Dtruthspeaker:"During the pendency of this tenancy" is referring to the defined length of time the tenancy agreement covers. It's not indefinite. In most cases, it's annually. |

| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 3:09pm On Dec 14, 2024 |
Free2Fly:Like I told someone above....if you are staying in your own house no problem but if you actually also a tenant then what a big shame. If any of your family members landlord increases there rent every year i will love you to keep the same energy. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Nazgul: 3:59pm On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:The landlord gave him over 6 months notice of the Increment which the op confirmed here. Yet you went him to pay 150k and ask for another 3 months to find another place. Op if you follow this advice you'll end up on the streets cos they'll throw your things out and you don't have any case in court cos you were informed. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Bobodee09: 4:20pm On Dec 14, 2024 |
Nazgul:Even if the landlord inform him 3yrs before it only someone wicked that will support any landlord increasing rent every here. It seems most of you here are still staying in your parents house cos I don't think anyone one paying rent will have any issh with my advise to him. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Nazgul: 4:25pm On Dec 14, 2024 |
Bobodee09:You're the one who's staying in your parents house that's why you're not aware that there's no law in Nigeria that restricts landlords from increasing their rent at will. You're just being emotional and you should know that being emotional cannot win a case in court. The landlord gave him over 6 months notice of the increment which is just 30k. Where I stay my landlord gave me an increament notice of 500k. Would you say you won't pay. Right there he'll tell an agent to find him a tenant and throw your things out. That's how insensitive these people have become. |
| Re: Help Me O, Before I Start Packing My Load! by Dtruthspeaker: 4:32pm On Dec 14, 2024 |
Free2Fly:Wrong! "During the pendency of this tenancy" means as long as the the relationship of landlord and tenant continues. If you say it is every year then it means tenants should be paying for tenancy agreement every time they pay rent. |
