FLASH: Governor of Lagos State, Mr @jidesanwoolu is set to commission the Babafemi Dada road with Bridge, Yinka Folarin-Jamiu Lawal-Shalom Academy Network of Roads in Alimosho Local Government Area today.

This massive project will eliminate the ‘popular’ vehicular wooden bridge, which was trending a few years back. It was created to connect Igando and Ayobo communities, as dangerous as the wooden bridge was, motorists paid to use it.

That has come to an end now after so many years.

Most people in the area felt this thing will never come to an end.

The wooden bridge that connects Ayobo and Igando areas of Lagos has trended on Nairaland and Twitter for at least 13 years.

People initially accused the government of constructing a wooden bridge and collecting a toll on it. The government replied that it was people in the area that built the bridge as a means of avoiding traffic jams on the major road and it said that it was going to do something about the issue.

There were reports about conflict between the government and the people that were collecting toll on the wooden bridge, but now the government has finally taken over the place and constructed a proper bridge.

Dirty road as usual. Only the rich seem to appreciate good environment in Nigeria

This is how it should be. Room should be given for private individuals to step into public infrastructure provision business as a way of bridging the gap and keeping the govt on their toes.
I am sure if someone hadn't done the wooden bridge and exposed what govt can do but wasnt doing, the govt will be churning out excuses of how the masterplans of the city will be altered by this needed and thoughtful project.

The road look like it comes with covered drainage.

No be only kudos na ukodo and palmwine. The LASG would have ignored if someone hadnt shown them how it ought to be done. The person who built the wooden bridge must have recovered his or her money 10 times over but govt will have us believe otherwise.

Why do we commission roads in Nigeria? I've lived in Germany for 6 years and I see construction everyday everywhere but never seen where politicians come out to commission any road . Why are we so backward in Nigeria? Why are Politicians taking its citizens for fool? After over inflated prices for the project they'll still block the road for use until it is commissioned....shame on Nigerian Politicians.

Germany’s annual budget is $2 trillion, while Nigeria’s is $40 billion.

Nigeria is a developing country like 80% of countries on Earth.

Building modern infrastructure on such a low budget is commendable and should be applauded.

You are not Germany. Ok?

That the world is far more than “Germany”, “U.S.”, “UK”, and “Dubai”.

You will stop feeling so inadequate and disgruntled.
