gasparpisciotta:Might be so, but even in the US, food comes among the least as a concern. Food is cheaper, and with varieties of them. Yeah, African markets may have them a bit on the high side, but overall, common foods, locally sourced are far cheaper, even in the UK. The reasons are many why Nigeria is the way it is. Nairametrics wrote sometimes this year that nearly half of poultry farmers are out of business... The reason is obvious. Nigeria has never been the same in the recent years because of inflation, lack of production, insecurity, worsening policies etc It is unthinkable to feel that what government does at the peak of power has no impact on the least of things. To think like that is a delusion. Blessed with arable lands, but what is the proportion of the lands that are being cultivated? Many farmers have lost lives or their farmlands because of insecurity, many harvests are wasting because of bad roads or no road at all; how many manufacturing plants are processing farm produce in many states? |

Eniitankorede:Don’t say that, yes Nigerians exports food over here, how much are those foods sold in Nigeria, compare that with how the economy is in Nigeria. Don’t tell me because Nigeria buy a tuber of yam between 8-12k naira and over here it goes for between 6-12 dollar you now tell me things are cheap in Nigeria, everything in Nigeria is first compared and measured in dollars before they’re sold in naira even locally produced foods. Mind you I make more than $100 daily of which my 1 week salary is more than what any lucrative company can pay their staffs in a month or two depending on the company in Nigeria. Inside that, the common man will still buy yam, rice and what have you, with his 150-300k a month salary. And you say things are cheap in Nigeria, how much is minimum wage for the poorest country in Europe? How much is minimum wage in Nigeria? Are Nigerians importing their major foods ? |

WriteerNg:your information is not complete take a look at what META AI SAYS The Bretton Woods Agreement was a landmark international economic agreement signed in 1944, which established a new global monetary order. Here's a brief overview: Key Objectives 1. *Promote international economic cooperation*: Encourage countries to work together to achieve economic stability and prosperity. 2. *Establish a stable international monetary system*: Create a framework for exchange rates, international trade, and financial stability. 3. *Facilitate international trade and investment*: Reduce trade barriers and promote economic integration. Main Provisions 1. *Fixed Exchange Rates*: Countries agreed to peg their currencies to the US dollar, which was in turn pegged to gold at a fixed rate of $35 per ounce. 2. *International Monetary Fund (IMF)*: Established the IMF to promote international monetary cooperation, exchange rate stability, and provide financial assistance to countries facing balance of payments difficulties. 3. *International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD)*: Established the IBRD (now part of the World Bank Group) to provide financing for reconstruction and development projects. 4. *Trade Liberalization*: Encouraged countries to reduce trade barriers and promote free trade. Impact and Legacy 1. *Post-WWII Economic Recovery*: The Bretton Woods system played a crucial role in the rapid economic recovery of Western Europe and Japan after World War II. 2. *Global Economic Integration*: The agreement facilitated international trade, investment, and economic integration, laying the foundation for globalization. 3. *Dollar Hegemony*: The US dollar emerged as the global reserve currency, solidifying US economic dominance. 4. *Criticisms and Challenges*: The Bretton Woods system faced criticisms for its rigidity, lack of representation for developing countries, and the US's dominant role. Collapse of the Bretton Woods System In 1971, the US suspended the convertibility of the dollar to gold, effectively ending the Bretton Woods system. This event, known as the "Nixon Shock," marked a shift towards floating exchange rates and the modern international monetary system. |

WriteerNg:US was the actual mastermind, see what META AI has to say The Bretton Woods Agreement was a landmark international economic agreement signed in 1944, which established a new global monetary order. Collapse of the Bretton Woods System In 1971, the US suspended the convertibility of the dollar to gold, effectively ending the Bretton Woods system. This event, known as the "Nixon Shock," marked a shift towards floating exchange rates and the modern international monetary system. The masterminds behind the Bretton Woods Agreement were primarily John Maynard Keynes of the British Treasury and Harry Dexter White of the United States Treasury Department. They independently developed ideas about the financial order of the post-war world, which eventually led to the creation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD).¹ Keynes proposed the International Clearing Union (ICU), which would regulate the balance of trade and provide a mechanism for countries to settle their international accounts. However, his proposal was not adopted in its entirety. On the other hand, White proposed the International Stabilization Fund, which would place the burden of maintaining the balance of trade on deficit nations. His proposal was more aligned with the interests of the United States, and it ultimately formed the basis of the IMF. The Bretton Woods Agreement was a result of the combined efforts of these two visionaries, along with other delegates from 44 Allied nations who gathered at the Mount Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, in 1944. The United States played a significant role in the masterminding of the Bretton Woods Agreement: Leadership and Initiative 1. *Harry Dexter White*: As the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury, White was the primary architect of the US proposal for the International Stabilization Fund, which later became the International Monetary Fund (IMF). 2. *Henry Morgenthau Jr.*: As the Secretary of the Treasury, Morgenthau provided strong support for White's proposal and played a key role in convincing President Franklin D. Roosevelt to back the plan. Economic and Financial Influence 1. *Dollar Hegemony*: The US dollar was established as the global reserve currency, giving the US significant influence over international trade and finance. 2. *Economic Dominance*: The US was the dominant economic power at the time, and its economic interests played a significant role in shaping the agreement. Diplomatic Efforts 1. *Bretton Woods Conference*: The US hosted the Bretton Woods Conference in 1944, which brought together representatives from 44 countries to finalize the agreement. 2. *Negotiations and Compromise*: The US played a key role in negotiating and compromising with other countries to reach a consensus on the agreement. Overall, the US played a leading role in shaping the Bretton Woods Agreement, reflecting its economic and financial dominance at the time. |

floss:Read the post again. The guy is saying things are cheaper in Russia based on conversion to naira. Not based on salary and cost of living. And I am saying they are far more expensive in Europe aand US when same argument is extended to those places. This means things are far cheaper in Russia as compared to Europe. But how much is their salary in Russia as compared to other parts of Europe? Thats the question. I reckon the Russians will not be earning up to £1000 per month on average. Thats why I see their citizens coming to work in UK where wages are higher. |
