Well in my opinion maybe population. Yakutsk is the capital city of Yakutia. Yakutia is about three times the size of Nigeria by land mass but less than one million people live in Yakutia. Yakutsk itself has about 350k residents only. Not sure how it adds up but a very beautiful city with low population compared to a place like Nigeria makes living standard very good.
Yakutsk is still expensive though. House rents starts from like 350k a month for good apartments.
Thanks to the Russian government's education system for citizens and foreigners though, I pay less than 18k naira a month for my 24 hours wifi, hot and cold water, electricity dormitory with a washing machine and they change my bed clothing for me twice a month.

I don't think the government is subsidizing anything food here. The only thing they subsidize is fuel for residents of Yakutsk because here in winter people leave their cars running 24/7 otherwise, without a heated car park, once you shut down your car, it freezes and starting it because a problem.
Wow

Things are far better than in Nigeria. Any country whose highest denomination currency cannot buy a plate of food, that country is in big trouble.
In Nigeria today, the highest denomination which is one thousand naira cannot afford a plate of food in the least restaurant, thanks to the economy annihilation policies of emilokan and his all knowing ronus.
May God save us

There's no greater evil in the world than the United States which have killed over 10 million people since WWII.

Russia is never touching the US record for number of innocent civilians it has killed, even in the next 500 years.

Should i list names of countries the US have bombed since then?

From churches to weddings to schools to hospitals all across the middle east.

Would you like to view images of Gazan men, women's and children blended to bits by Israeli bombs donated by the United States.

The United States is worse than evil, they are blood sucking vampires. They feed fat from people's death.

Stop being an ignorant fool and research rather than being brainwashed by western media to call someone evil. Inheriting enemies is a sign of low IQ.

Not even an average Ukrainian living in the Donbass will tell you the war was unprovoked. The war began as far back as 2014. You are just not informed.
As for foolishness, you are the one who creates threads upon threads with nothing but unfounded lies and propaganda that would have made Josef Gobbels cringe. Your one sided hatred for Western values come across as someone with a damaged mind and so totally unable to reason rationally. If you have read history at all you would have known that the USSR was first allied to Hitler with whom they invaded and divided Poland. So, you are so myopic as not to have read of the Russian infliction of the " Hlodomor" on Ukrainians? The invasion of Finland, Chechnya, Georgia, and now Ukraine? What led to the collapse of the USSR anyway, was it not as a result of the loses suffered after the invasion of Afghanistan had failed miserably? Who was propping the murderous Assad o Syria with weapons of mass murder till they were overwhelmed? Go and read history before coming up with another half cooked childish Russian propaganda.

When it comes to food items, Yakutsk, Russia is probably the most expensive city in Russia.

Seven hours ahead of Moscow's time zone, eight hours ahead of Nigeria's, logistics of transporting food to Yakutsk adds up to the cost.

Also, at minus 63 degrees Celsius lowest temp. Yakutsk is the coldest city in the world.
Farmers can only farm for about three months a year and livestock's farming requires considerably high amount of energy to maintain temperature requirements.
These factors ensures that food prices remain high in Yakutsk especially in winter. But how expensive are these food items exactly?

One Turkey leg 108 Rubles About 1,550 in naira

0.5 kg Pig meat 227 Rubles About 3,200 in naira

One Whole chicken about 1.5kg 180 Rubles about 2,550 in naira

0.7kg Onions 66 Rubles About 950 naira

1kg Sweet Potatoes 94 Rubles About 1,350 in naira

Note: that Naira/Rubles exchange rate fluctuates between 14 to 14.5 Naira per Ruble

Also, even though these were the costs of these items, the supermarket still gave me a 5% discount on these items because I have a student ID card.

Note that these I purchased these food items in a retail supermarket. Also, things are expensive in Russia right now dues to sanctions which is the irony of the whole thing.

Despite economic issues and sanctions, Russia is still able to provide a quality standard of living to foreigners and their citizens even in a remote city like our Yakutsk.❤️

Mr Historian. I bet you don't know that Britain, France and others all signed a friendship agreement with Hitler, the same agreement the Soviet Union signed.

And guess what? They signed it a year before the Soviet Union did.

Did you also know that US banks funded Hitler and the German war machine as it is doing now in Ukraine? I guess you don't, you've spent so much of your life bathing yourself in western propaganda you've lost the ability to think for yourself.

You let western media do the reasoning for you.

And btw Russia/USSR killed about 86% of the Nazis. They conquered Berlin, surrounded Hitler's bunker before Hitler shot himself. Hitler's remains is still in a museum in Moscow as we speak.

So get down on your knees and continue thanking Russia for the freedom you enjoy today. They paid for it in blood. By now you'd be a farm animal speaking German if not for Russia.

The western allied forces killed only 5% of the Nazis and fought in the lowest intensity battle areas. The Russians fought on the bloodiest and fiercest front which was the eastern front.

There's a reason why only Russia is allowed to celebrate WWII Victory Day, not even Ukraine or the west is allowed to do that. The west celebrates their Normandy/D-Day Landing only.

Russia won the war singlehandedly but today the US takes all the glory. It's in their nature so not surprised.

And please don't tell me it was the USSR and not Russia. Matter of fact, Ukrainian SSR was easily conquered by the Nazis, it was the Russians that came to their rescue.

The so called lend lease program the US provided to the Russians was only about 5% of the total military equipment Russia used in fighting that war. And the amount ($11 billion in today's money) has since been paid back in full by Russia.

I did not read through all comments.

Even then the reason food is so cheap there is the population compared to Nigeria.

The vast land bigger than the whole of Nigeria.

Go figure. Nigeria has too many mouths to feed.

Gari pass water abi na water pass gari

Yet people steal for fear of not having enough tomorrow like squirrels and monkey banana.

I don't think so. USA and Canada are facing food and inflation crisis now. Expensive cost of living, people are now moving to Caribbean countries, Belize, Mexico etc and thus making those places expensive too.
USA is a world power no doubt but when it comes to food Russia is soaring high. Why do you think food is cheap in Russia? Bro, Russia is the world's largest exporter of wheat and many foods.

Why isn't anyone talking about the percentage of farmers in Russia per population comparing it to that of Nigeria, how man lands are cultivated for farming in Russia and how many is cultivated in Nigeria, does Russia have more than enough fertilizer that it can even donate to African countries as Nigeria can donate to its rural farmers, let me stop here. Check this and tell me how you will see who will buy chicken in Russia for 3k when there's too many people who wants to sell it at a cheaper price. We are not producing enough what we eat in Nigeria and now for the love of dollar, people are trying so hard to export the little produced abroad only to be rejected and become damaged. People are hiding their farm produce waiting for when there's scarcity so they can sell at higher price, if theres enough in the market, how will there be scarcity, how will price increase. We're not done with local breed and local farming, we're already going into foreign breeding and foreign food, but i still blame the government for not taking the lead in all aspects of Agriculture. If Agric be 17k and local chicken is 4k, tell me how much the demand for the agric chicken will increase...

if the govt can't provide anything for it's citizens then why do we have govt in the first place. They have all the resources , power and money and can't do anything. What is the essence of paying tax, having passport, voting during election, doing all this for a govt that is only going to harm you. And do nothing good for you.
It's high time we should share the country let everyone have access to his own mini country with no govt.

The govt meant to provide for the citizens are killing them off.
