Yes, if you don’t qualify for the visa, you won’t get it—no hard feelings.

I have gone through the entire IRCC visa application process, from:

- Visitor Visa (2 rejections in 2013/2014) using agent

- to Student Visa (2 rejections in 2015/2016 using an agent),

- to finally getting my Student Visa approved in 2017 (on my own no agent).

Today, I am a Canadian citizen.

Don’t give up, but make sure to use the correct visa for your situation. If you can log into nairaland You have an internet and You have all the information online

I have helped my sister get

(1) student Visa UK (one time)

(2) a Canadian Visitor Visa from the UK, where she works. She visited and returned as required. ( One time).

(3) My brother who is a PR and parents V V all thanks to nairaland no agent

Recently 2 weeks ago, Justin Trudeau’s Immigration Minister talked about reforms to the asylum system to prevent it from being misused.

Lol

You people are too funny.

Anybody that qualified to obtain a Canadian visit visa is a well to do Nigerian.

And if such individual decides to overstay with ordinary visit visa, such person will cry and might end up with depression....

Why will somebody will even channel their energy on visit visa? Why not a better pathway to residency?

Visit visa is never an option.

Many people are currently learning the hard way in Canada

Hahaha, that's true! It seems like that's how things are in Nigeria. I'm doing well here too, but the economy is really tough. I have a house, a car, and a business, but it's not easy at all. I'm making these sacrifices for my children. My plan is to use a visitor visa to get to Canada, and then I'll apply for school. I can study while my wife works. I didn't go for a student visa because of the proof of funds and initial deposit issues, but I believe it will be easier to secure a visitor visa for my family considering my business and assets. Don't blame us; some of us believe it's better to struggle abroad than to be broke in Nigeria, especially when you were once doing well. The government's decisions are really hitting my business hard. We're praying that in our quest to make money, we won't lose more and that we won't regret our choices. God should guide and direct our steps. What seems difficult for others will be easy for us!

So, you believe that once you secure a Canada visitor visa and land in Canada, you can apply for a student visa without needing proof of funds or a deposit? Please, that is a 100% false assumption. Applying for a student visa, whether inside or outside Canada, is the same process. In fact, it can be even more expensive and difficult from inside Canada because you will still need to provide all the necessary requirements, including the deposit required by the school and proof of funds for visa application . Additionally, your spouse cannot simply work in Canada because you are a student—this privilege is exclusive to Master's and PhD students, as well as some selected degree programs. Furthermore, some spouses of Master's students who apply for a spouse open work permit are still being rejected. So, plan well to avoid being stranded with incorrect information!

Do not overstay your visa in any country.

For your friend, that may have been the only option. However, one exception doesn’t change the facts or the reality on the ground.

Most people living abroad often don’t share the full truth about their situations—they lie.

The processing time for admission and obtaining a study visa or permit usually takes more than six months.

The exception you mentioned—converting a visitor visa to a study permit—is indeed the best option. However, it must be done within six months of your arrival.

This approach is much better than attempting to convert a visitor visa to a work permit, which is impossible.

Now what are the Options for Someone Overstaying Their Visa

1. Converting a visitor visa to a study visa/permit:
Possible, but only if done within six months of your entry date.

2. Converting a visitor visa to a work visa/permit:
- Not possible. Kill this idea altogether.

3. Marriage to a PR or citizen 😄IRCC will show you shage Festus Odua is just one out of many cases.

4. Claiming asylum: This is a very serious decision with significant short-term, long-term, and lifetime consequences.

If your claim is denied (and it likely will be, as authorities are familiar with common fabricated claims like those involving LGBTQ status or threats from groups like Boko Haram), you could face removal from Canada and a lifetime ban from re-entry.

If you didn't claim at POE You have to be in the country for 14 days then you fill for asylum

Which Filing an asylum claim results in a conditional removal order, which becomes enforceable if your claim is denied.

You sign for CBSA officers to kick you out if your asylum / refugee claim isn't accepted

You can Prolonging the process by hiring lawyers will be costly ($$$) and only delay the inevitable enforcement.

Summary: Apply for the visa or permit you qualify for to avoid unnecessary stress and complications.

All you said here is FACTS 👌🏾.

You will still need to show POF even while in Canada with a VV to convert to student Visa.

And your spouses of Master's students who apply for a spouse open work permit are still being rejected.

I have a valid US visa and in the new portal, it asked for "Proof of financial support" (I submitted bank statements). I also included a self introduction/cover letter (with an overview of my travel plans) and employment + promotion letters. I forgot to add my full itinerary but I believe that can be helpful too. For a safe balance to have, I'm not sure. Someone here recommended budgeting at least $300/day. So maybe a little over that, prorated for 7 days will be good enough.

Canada doesn't want you to spend your 6 million Naira they will help you save it by rejecting

IRCC will help you attend your " conference" via zoom

Every Western country will show you "Shege Pro Max" if you don’t understand the situation on the ground and believe you’ll be the exception.

If you arrive on a student visa without sufficient funds, here’s the reality:

- You cannot work and pay for your tuition fees.

- You can work to cover basic expenses like rent, food, clothing, and bills (e.g., phone).

The "Shege Pro Max" comes when someone arrives in the UK or Canada thinking they can work and pay off their school fees. Kill that idea—it’s not possible.

If anyone believes otherwise, let them explain how it’s achievable on a 24-hour workweek at minimum wage. It simply isn’t.

You have a valid US visa, so the visa officer is less likely to suspect that you plan to overstay or claim asylum.

1. Proof of Funds (POF):
You need to provide proof of funds for any visa application. Clearly explaining your plans and how you intend to fund them will greatly strengthen your application.

2. Sample Budget for a 7-Day Stay:
For a 7-day trip, outline your expenses as follows:
- Flight: $$$
- Accommodation: $$$
- Activities: $$$ (Explain what you plan to do and their costs.)
- Transportation: $$$
- Food: $$$

If you have a family member who is a PR or citizen, they can provide their PR card or passport with their address and rent agreement or mortgage to show the visa officer that you will stay with them. If they are covering your accommodation, they should write a letter confirming this. This can reduce the financial burden on your application.

If you don’t have such a family member, that’s fine. You’ll need to write a detailed letter explaining your plans, activities, and estimated costs you are looking to spend for each item.

3. Safe Bank Balance:
While there’s no exact "safe balance," having more than the recommended amount for your trip is crucial. For example, if you have ₦15 million ( one applicant) , that would be considered sufficient but IRCC wants you to have More way more than your your require.

On average, a tourist in Toronto spends at least $300 per day, and this is a conservative estimate.

4. Why Family Members Help in Visa Applications:
Many successful applicants have family members who assist by:
- Providing their PR card or passport.
- Writing a letter or providing proof (e.g., a lease agreement) to show they will house and accommodate the applicant.

This reduces concerns for the visa officer and simplifies the application process.

The mistakes have already been made, and it's not the time to blame me for them. However, it's important to correct my mistakes. I can't get back the money I've spent on the visitor's visa. I'm just trying to find a way out in case I get the visa, to see if it's possible to apply for a master's program there. My friend mentioned that he used his proof of funds for his visitor's visa and then applied for school right after arriving. That's why we're here to correct and learn from little mistakes. I’m not blaming you, as we are all learning, and nobody has a monopoly on information. But firstly, did your friend apply for a Master's program inside Canada or at a school offering a PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit)? This is important because colleges in Canada fall into different categories, and applying to a college without a PGWP, without adequate planning, is risky. So, do your research well. Proof of funds (POF) for a visitor visa is different from that for a student visa, and the requirements vary for single applicants and families. plus balance ur tuition fee Moreover, things are changing rapidly in Canada, so stay updated and plan carefully.

$300/day in Toronto is alot except you're taking uber everywhere, I did not spend up to $150/day - public transportation, sightseeing and food all inclusive.

isArray:

I don't say what I don't know.

The exception isn’t the case or norm here.

Just because you do it doesn’t mean it’s an exception and you are already in Toronto settled

People here are trying to convince the visa officer that they have the financial means to support themselves while in the country, will not claim asylum, and won’t be a burden on social services.

They also need to prove that they’ll return to Nigeria after their "conference" is over.

This is why it’s required to have more than the average traveler would in your bank account, ready to spend.

First, let’s break down the costs:

1. **Accommodation**: The average hotel room in Toronto or Canada as a whole costs around $150 per night (this is a conservative estimate).

2. **Transportation**: Using the TTC, GO Bus, and trains will cost a minimum of $20 per day. If you’re new to the area and moving around a lot as a tourist attending a "conference," transportation expenses could go up to $50 daily.

3. **Food**: Eating isn’t cheap. Even if you cook, it could cost you $30–$100 per day.

To be on the safe side, because you’re convincing the visa officer of your ability to financially sustain yourself, budgeting **$300 per day** is reasonable.

For reference, here’s what Statistics Canada says about Canadian residents’ spending on domestic trips:

As of August 28, 2024, the average spending per domestic trip was $233 ($112 for same-day trips and $496 for overnight trips) in the first quarter of 2024. This implies that a foreigner will likely spend even more.

But why they come refuse visit visa for a person going on holiday for 7 days with over 50 million in account with business document, many properties, family and other source of income but no travel experiencehuh
because they have seen people with better profiles who came and filled asylum or never went back. There are people who have houses in lekki but filed asylum in USA. These things are also at the discretion of the visa officer, another visa officer may have granted it

The truth is, every case is different, and no result will be the same.

Back in 2016, I was denied my 2nd student visa and my 4th visa in total to Canada.

That was my 4th visa rejection, even after paying $10,000 in school fees for the first year, with a total fee of $30,000.

At the time, my dad had $32,000 in savings and about ₦20,000,000 in his personal account, along with a business account holding ₦100,000,000.

This was for Centennial College, where I was pursuing a postgraduate diploma.

Don’t worry—after the denial, I was refunded.

Canadian immigration can be very frustrating.

Over the years, after helping others with visa applications, one thing I’ve come to understand is that most people don’t qualify for the visa category they are applying for.

In my case, I was initially applying for a student visa with a postgraduate diploma.

However, when I applied for a master’s degree program and a student visa, it was approved quickly, even with less money in my dad's account.

By that time, my sister had already moved to Canada in 2016, and her fees had been fully paid.

Another factor to consider is the immigration climate of the country at the time of your application.

For example, Canada is now trying to reduce the number of temporary visas (visitor visas), making it more challenging to get approved.

Back in 2014 to 2017 🇳🇬 apply for colleges for a diploma program come into the country

When you already have a BSC in Nigeria

and because of Buhari and exchange rate issue started that time most people didn't complete the college they look for ways to get PR ( marriage asylum etc.) while still being students

But it was less with people coming for Masters and PHD

One thing to note is that obtaining a Canadian visa is not just about having money—although finances are very very very important —but also about applying for the visa under the right category that suits your qualifications and intentions.

IRCC knows you are not coming for a "conference".😂😂

The 🇳🇬 that have come here before you they don't do what they say they will do are the main issue.

that you have a property in a place like Lekki does not mean you are immune from financial challenges, political challenges, etc. the daughter of a former Governor Kemi Olunloyo filled for asylum in Canada before being deported due to her past in USA. A lot of well to do people in Nigeria relocated to USA using visiting visa and regularized with marriage or asylum. Dey play
