I lived abroad before moving back (willingly) to Nigeria.
Dont mention 7 figures in Naira, you dont live in Nigeria.
Its can 15 figures in Dominican Peso's. Do you live in Dominican republic ?
Drive at whatever you are....I didn't mention Lebanese Pounds.

After expenditure what remains for investments, holidaying, personal development etc?

A minimum wage earner who is single and working 40hrs werkly can have a take home pay of £1,640 monthly.

He gets a £500 per month room in a shared house, bills inclusive.

£640 for his/her other expenditures, having a monthly savings of £500.

Now calculate for the minimum wage earner of N80,000 in Nigeria who is also single.🤔

Excellent article.

If Britain wishes to break off trade relations with Nigeria and Africa, then they can go ahead and make Kemi Badmarket their Prime Minister.

Just last month their foreign minister David Lammy was in Nigeria looking for investment opportunities.

Indian, French, German presidents last month all visited Nigeria to talk business.

Britain after Brexit, needs trading partners like yesterday..

We'll see what happens.
What a load of crap.
Those foreign leaders didn't come to Nigeria to beg for investment from Nigeria.
No, they want to bring their own money.
Fortunately, no Nigerian president will be foolish as to reject foreign investment, sentiments or no sentiments.

Interestingly, it is people like you that will get her elected.
The more publicity she gets, negative or positive, the greater her political profile.
It is the same strategy used by Trump.

So many Nigerians attacking Kemi, like Shetimma, should divert the energy they are expending to show Kemi is an 'aberration' towards finding solutions for Nigeria's problems. Kemi may have her issues but most of her utterances, even though unbecoming of her present office, are true.

What I find hypocritically amazing and unprogressive is how Nigerians have so much energy and vitriol to fight 'outsiders' who 'diss' them yet similar cannot be deployed by (1) ordinary Nigerians to challenge leaders robustly for better leadership and (2) for Nigerian leaders to take an honest look at themselves and realize they must do far better since the fact they lag behind considerably in comparison to their peers worldwide has contributed directly and majorly towards Nigeria also lagging behind horrendously in comparison to the UK Kemi is now a political leader in.

What single one, for example, of the many debilitating and fundamental challenges of the North has Shetimma chosen to be a champion solutions provider for as Awolowo decided free education is a must to shape the future of the SW and Yorubas?

Yet Shetimma has full focus when writing grandiloquently to challenge and join issues with our 'common enemy' who dares to insult the "biggest black nation on Earth". We are just an unfocused and hypocritical people who, in the majority, lack capacity for sincere and constructive introspection.

We don't understand that nationalistic pride should not be empty and based on hubris alone. It should develop naturally in citizens for their nation that is comparatively productive and exemplarily developed or genuinely doing the right things to be developed after past setbacks.

Below is the updated comparison table that includes Tax and National Insurance (NI) deductions for London’s income of £1,640 monthly alongside Kaduna’s ₦80,000 monthly income.

Category London (£1,640) Kaduna (₦80,000) Observations
Gross Monthly Income £1,640 ₦80,000 Gross income before any deductions or spending.
Tax & NI ~£300 - £350 ₦0 UK income below ~£12,570/year is tax-free, but NI starts at ~£12,570. Nigeria imposes minimal tax.
Net Monthly Income £1,290 - £1,340 ₦80,000 London income drops ~18-21% due to tax and NI; Kaduna income remains unchanged.
Monthly Rent (Room) £800 - £1,000 ₦30,000 - ₦50,000 Rent in London consumes 60%-75% of net income; Kaduna rent uses 37%-62% of total income.
Utilities (Electricity, Water, etc.) £150 - £200 ₦10,000 - ₦15,000 London utilities remain costly; Kaduna has much lower utility expenses.
Groceries £200 - £300 ₦15,000 - ₦20,000 London groceries take a bigger share of income due to higher costs.
Transportation £150 - £250 ₦10,000 - ₦15,000 Public transport costs are higher in London. Kaduna’s public transport is far more affordable.
Healthcare & Insurance £150 - £200 ₦5,000 - ₦10,000 Healthcare costs are unavoidable in London due to insurance/private services; Kaduna is cheaper.
Internet & Phone £40 - £60 ₦8,000 - ₦12,000 Internet and phone services remain far cheaper in Kaduna.
Entertainment £100 - £150 ₦5,000 - ₦10,000 London entertainment costs significantly more due to lifestyle and city pricing.
Miscellaneous £50 - £80 ₦5,000 - ₦10,000 Unexpected expenses are notably higher in London.
Savings Potential £0 - £50 ~₦5,000 - ₦15,000 Savings are minimal in London, but Kaduna allows for some flexibility.

Key Adjustments with Tax and NI
1. UK Tax and NI Impact:
• At £1,640 monthly (~£19,680 annually), the UK applies:
• Personal Allowance: First £12,570 tax-free.
• Basic Rate (20%): Remaining income above £12,570 taxed.
• National Insurance: Kicks in above ~£12,570.
• Effective deductions bring take-home pay down to £1,290 - £1,340 monthly.
2. Kaduna Context:
• Nigeria’s taxation on ₦80,000 income is negligible for most individuals.
• No mandatory deductions like National Insurance.

Insights
• After tax and NI, London’s disposable income shrinks, pushing financial stress higher.
• Kaduna offers a higher proportional purchasing power with minimal deductions, allowing for a modest but potentially sustainable lifestyle.

If you are using London as comparison then use Lagos for Nigeria.

If you must use Kaduna then compare it with cities like Liverpool with cheaper rent, where £300 gets one a room in a shared house, bills inclusive. Go to spareroom.co.uk, there are also £600 rooms in London, utilities bills inclusive.

By the way, monthly bus & tram pass in London is £94.90.

Unlimmited calls, texts and nternet subscription to phone is less than £25 monthly and WiFi connection in most houses is part of the rent.

The £1,640 is after deductions, not gross pay for someone working 40hrs per week.

So N600 can take care of an adult feeding well in a day, in Kaduna?

I never said 600Naira,i pasted it again 15k-20k, bulk purchase from the market on market days. No supermarket shopping, all organic food, fresh from the farm by the local farmers, you buy whats in season.

Starting salary 1600 pounds, for how long do you want to live in a single room as a grown man ? Do you know what it takes to move from monthly salary of 1600 pounds to 2600pounds. 99% of JAPA dont get that salary incerement. Unless you go back to school to get a certificate.
After 20 years you might not even have 20k pounds savings.
I am not knocking living abroad. But dont make it out to be a bed of roses. I have lived in Manchester, London and New york.

That averages N600 daily by that range.

The price of bread at Tesco supermarket in Manchester, is the same as Tesco supermarket in London.

Ironically, Nigerian food is cheaper in London in comparison to other places I have lived in the UK. I also bulk purchase yam, potatoes, tomatoes, pepper, apples, avocado, onions, plantain, fresh vegetables, bananas, oranges, grapes etc from open markets here in London

Uk imports most of its food, they cant grow anything in the winter, and vegetables and fresh produce cannot be stored for long. Food is cheaper in Nigeria. If you dont live in the big cities and you dont mind eating whats in season.Yam in season is affordable in the small towns (not lagos and abuja)
Naija food is cheaper in london because the flights come into gatwick, heathrow, luton everyday from all over the world.
London is good to come to when you are young and strong. If you can go to London at 16years instead of going to university and your work for Ten years straight. If you invest your money in blue-chip stocks. You can go back to Nigeria and live comfortably for the rest of your life.

I don't live in a single room but I know what progression is when laser focused and investing in personal development...I packed bananas at Fyffes Bananas, earning minimum wage as a student, today I am a Clinical Practitioner working in the public service with a London borough, with good working environment and welfare package while still earning online when off work, offering sessions to clients.

Living in Nigeria is neither a bed of roses, as those who are also in government are always looking for excuses to spend time abroad.

Kemi is the worst thing ever to be associated with Nigeria. If Kemi was a White person, she is the type that would spit on black people on the streets on London with impunity. Nobody likes her, not her political party, not her staff, probably not even her own family with this toxicity and impulsivity.

Nigeria being an easier place to make wealth and save more money, what percentage is living in multidimensional poverty?

He was even fare with his comparism. Nobody on basic salary rent a house higher than 120k a year in Nigeria. Matter of fact it can be as low as 48k a year. He was talking about 30k to 50k a month. It's unrealistic. Your earning must be in hundreds of thousands to contemplate renting a N500k per anum.
