Nigerians that only think about size of land, and size of population, as if these are achievements, make me laugh Singapore has a population of just 5 million people and is less than half the Land mass of the smallest state in Nigeria, Lagos But Singapore has 3 times the GDP of Nigeria And people are here dwelling on population and land size? Ok |

Nothing wrong in creating additional state for the south east to give them a sense of belonging and balance but Osita must be told that he is biased in his assessment of issues. Why not tell us how much millions the area is losing to sit at home policy of Simon Ekpa group |

What are they losing for not having the 7 th state? What is the size of SE that it thinks it deserve a 6th state? Moreover, if i have my way, i will scrap many states, especially states with small land mass and not showing signs of sustainability. SE with a land mass of Oyo state wants 6 states . It is also the least populated region of the 6 regions. |

Bendeco02:There's no state in the North that you won't find a Yoruba person, even in their villages. Yoruba is first largest tribe in Nigeria. Hausa are second but adding other minority ethnics in the north that adopted Hausa as general lingua franca makes Hausa taking first in Nigeria. |

Bendeco02:The sections of your post ABOVE that I've BOLDED are completely FALSE and it shows you are NOT well informed about who the Yoruba folks or Yoruba ethnic group who number over 60 million people worldwide in multiple countries are. I have decades of advanced studies on the migrations and history of interethnic relationships of specific ethnic groups such as the Igalas, Yorubas, Edos, Hausas, Kanuris, Nupes, Igbos, Anioma towns and areas, etc, within Nigeria and ALSO on ethnic groups outside Nigeria. For your information, the Yorubas who are the SECOND largest ethnic group in Nigeria based on past population censuses, the CIA WORLD FACT Book and United Nations agencies estimates [after the Hausas who are ALSO indigenous to Niger Republic] are widely traveled internationally engaging in international trade along the West Coast of Africa with a population of 3 million alone living and doing business peacefully in Cote d'Ivoire for over 150 years NOW and over 250 years in Ghana. The Yoruba people have a very HUGE population in the North of Nigeria. To even start with, Yorubas are indigenous to 3 Northern Nigeria states of Kwara, Kogi, and parts of Niger States. They are indigenously relatively small in Niger State BUT with a large immigrant Yoruba non-indigene population in Minna and other towns while engaging in businesses, medical practice, academia and more. BUT in Kwara State where the Governor and Deputy-Governor are of Yoruba lineages, out of the 16 Local Governments in the entire Kwara State, 12 LGAs are indigenous to the Yorubas alone including the Kwara State capital, Ilorin where Yorubas constitute over 90 percent of the population and pure Yoruba language is spoken as the lingua franca, 2 LGAs are indigenous to the Nupes, 2 LGAs are indigenous to the Baribas (Farooq Kperogi is from this ethnic group which is otherwise called the Batonu people) who are also found in Northern Benin Republican while Yorubaland also extends to Benin Republic and Togo with Obas in those countries as well. Now, outside Kwara, Kogi, and Niger States where you have a huge presence of Yorubas, you have millions of Yorubas in Plateau State, Nassarawa, Kano, Jigawa, Borno, Yobe, Zamfara, Sokoto, Bauchi, Kaduna, Katsina (in Funtua, Katsina State, Yorubas are known in Hausa as Yarubawan Funtua meaning the Yorubas of Funtua who have engaged in trading activities for decades and have become integrated into the society), etc. and many have become fully Hausanized especially the Yorubas who are practicing Muslims and speak Hausa fluently. You will NOT know these FACTS unless they tell you or speak Yoruba with heavy Hausa accents to you! Yorubas have engaged in long-distance trading with the Mali Empire, Ashanti Empire, Benin Empire, and the Hausas city-states (via the Nupe country) from the mighty Oyo Empire for hundreds of years and Yorubas have lived in Hausaland and other parts of the Old Northern Region for at least 200 years. INFACT, it's on record that besides the 3 indigenous ethnic groups of Jos (Beroms, Anagutas, and Afizeres), the Yoruba ethnic group were the FIRST EVER to settle in Jos in the 1800s. This FACT came to light when the indigenes had communal crises over land claims with Hausa migrant descendants and the indigenes CLEARLY stated at the panel of enquiry through their political representatives and legal teams that the Yoruba ethnic group came to Jos BEFORE the Hausas migrated to Jos and yet Yorubas have NEVER dubiously claimed to be indigenes of Jos! So, I want you and other Igbos who may have been influenced by FAKE historical information circulating online (especially through those propaganda Ipob Websites) to further educate yourselves and realize that Yorubas are spread all over Nigeria including Port Harcourt where Yorubas use as a major base and alongside many other towns such as Asaba, Warri, etc, in the Niger Delta States. Even before the Nigerian Civil War, historical records show that many Yorubas and Edos lived and built houses in Abakaliki, Onitsha, etc, but the Civil War made them leave [after Col Ojukwu EXPELLED all the non-Eastern region ethnic groups and told Igbos to return] and after the Civil War ended exactly 2 years and 6 months later in January 1970, many were reluctant to return to the current South East to invest because of the fear of the unknown. However, some other Yorubas, Edo, Fulanis, and Hausas live in the South East now especially in the friendly Onitsha and Enugu areas for instance. The figure could have been more but some still reckon that Igboland can be politically VERY volatile sometimes and you can lose your investments or get kidnapped due to spontaneous insecurity situations. Some Igbos don't go back to the villages for holidays yet because of insecurity in some places such as Ihiala sand more until the kidnappings and robberies situations improve. So, this puts to rest your highly INCORRECT claim that Hausas and Igbos are the most populated ethnic groups in Nigeria. Yoruba descendants are indigenous to Delta State via the Olukumis of Ugbodu, Eko Efun or Ukwu Nzu, etc, in Aniocha North LGA, and the Itsekiri lineages many of who have direct Ilaje, Ijebu and Ife ancestries. Yorubas are in Edo State in USEN, Egbeta, Utese, etc, all with traditional rulers or Obas, Yorubas are indigenous to North Central Nigeria in Kwara, Kogi and parts of Niger States, and Western Nigerian States of Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, etc. In Benin Republic the Yorubas have up to 30 Obas in Yoruba towns such as Ajase (Porto Novo), Ketou (Ketu), Bante, and many more. In Togo Republic, Obas exist there as well among the Ife people in the Atakpame Region. The Ewes of Togo and Ghana, and the Ga people who are the original indigenes of Greater Accra in Ghana ALSO have Ife and Yoruba ancestral lineages. So, the Yoruba folks and bloodlines are spread wide across West Africa and the world in the United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, France, etc. Open your eyes wider and read more archival historical materiald because that BOLDED part of your statement that you earlier made is a BIG historical fallacy! |

Is it the same north which two Yoruba States are among? Apart from some manipulation and bringing some other minority ethnic groups to add to the Hausas in the north during the population census, Yoruba is unarguably the most populated tribe in Nigeria while the Hausa tribe came second. Mccullum:@Mccullum, succinctly stated! It's VERY intelligent of you to have CORRECTED him there as well. I too just wrote a STRONG and relatively long reply to him right ABOVE on this thread page with clear historical FACTS correcting his MISLEADING information about the Yoruba population inside and outside Nigeria (which is over 60 million worldwide based off of projections and the Yorubas have been CLEARLY the SECOND largest ethnic group in population after the Hausa in Nigeria based on past population censuses and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) WORLD FACT Book). The Yorubas also have the SECOND largest Muslim population in Nigeria after the Hausas, then followed by the Kanuris in Nigeria. This is so because Islam arrived in Oyo Empire (Yorubaland) via Mali Empire clerics and long-distance traders over 500 years ago long before Uthman Dan Fodio was born in the late 1700s, then subsequently starting the so-called jihad in 1803 from what is now Niger Republic (where he was born) right into Hausaland in the current Nigeria. |
