The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has presented 20 brand new Toyota Hilux trucks equipped with modern gadgets to security agencies in the state to bolster their operations and enhance safety, ABN TV reports.

The presentation took place at the International Conference Centre in Umuahia, where Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s commitment to prioritizing security since taking office. He emphasized that the state government recognized security as the foundation for development.

“When we assumed the leadership of this state eighteen months ago, we made it very clear that security was topmost on our agenda,” Otti stated. “We understood that every other thing we wanted to do would amount to nothing if security was compromised.”

The Governor explained that the provision of the vehicles aimed to ensure the seamless operations of security personnel in Abia State. He described the gesture as a way of appreciating the efforts of law enforcement agencies while equipping them to be more effective and efficient.

Highlighting achievements under his administration, Governor Otti recalled the successful launch of Operation Crush, an inter-agency initiative that has significantly improved security across the state, particularly in Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Government Areas. He noted that communities previously plagued by kidnapping and armed robbery have been reclaimed, enabling residents to return to their villages.

“People who could not access their villages for several years were able to spend Christmas in their homes last year,” the Governor remarked. “Since then, we have continued to ensure that Abia remains peaceful.”

While acknowledging isolated incidents involving criminal activities, Governor Otti reaffirmed his administration's determination to tackle security challenges. He warned that Abia State would no longer serve as a haven for criminals.

“We have rejigged our security architecture and we repeat the warning that this state will not accommodate those who choose to operate outside the law,” he declared. The Governor further disclosed that several offenders have already been apprehended.

Dr. Otti also urged service commanders to ensure their personnel remain professional and refrain from criminal activities, including extorting residents. He expressed confidence in the security agencies and reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting their operations.

By the time he finished his first term they were over 300vehicles he donated to the police alone.. not to talk of other sister agencies.

He bought them with is own money? OP rephrase your headline, he did not donate it, he picked money from the state's purse to buy what the state needs, which is the right thing to do. Why make it seem like he's doing a favour from his own purse?

Nigerian police are under funded. Apart from Donations from state Governors ..... Private business owners also donate vehicles etc to the police.

While I love these by the States, provision should be made for fuels. I also think States should do this often so police officers can have the vehicles to attend to crimes. Imagine you calling 911 and 5 vehicles show up ...we need police vehicles permanently stationed in some areas and some that can move around to prevent crimes. That is the New Nigeria we want to see.
