who else can remember the popular Molue buses in Lagos back then? it was basically the cheapest means of transportation, aside the price, it has so many side attractions. from the mad rush to board the Moule(please if you are wearing a white outfit get ready to alight with a different color) to the unending dramas in the bus . Men and women, young and old, fall over one another to get into the vehicle.

After many must have boarded, with injuries sustained atimes, settling down is a different experience entirely. Men and women standing are packed like sardines. As though it is the standard, every Molue has one or two drug hawkers on standby. And hardly would the buses move before they take their turn to sell their wares, arrest the attention of their audience and thrill them as the bus takes off.

Cases of stolen money ,wristwatches, phones and other gadgets was very high. Some passengers alight from the Molue with a sad face mourning their missing stuffs, some don't even find out until they get to their destinations while others are smiling after a smooth operation.

As a matter of fact, anything happens inside the Molue, expect anything , It is in the Molue bus that cases of man rubbing his manhood against the bum of a woman standing in his front is reported without shame.

I boarded bolekaja from Beere Oje to Apete Town in Ibadan for the first time. As for molue, it was countless time here in Lagos but the most interesting was from Obalende to Ikeja in 1983. So much fighting inside that Mercedes Benz molue that day.............. cheesy Life can be funny and awkward sometimes.

Molue era is enough for film makers to make many comedy series.

In Fela Anikulapo song, title :suffering and smiling.

It is molue the Abami eda was referring to when baba said " 29 sitting 99 standing "

Let start with their two conductors, one at front door and the second one mounting the second door. They're always on under wear singlet white turned to brown... With their hairy armpit full of dust cheesy

Molue no get break, don't expect it to wait or park for you to enter, you will run to enter it and also run to come down.... During rush hour, you either take elbow or hooking while trying to get inside Molue. grin

The standing is the most difficult of it... They will pack people till no single space for even an ant to pass. While standing, you see some shameless men trying to press women back side....passengers will fight from point A to point Z...

The drivers are practical example of what Asake means in his lyrics " dey don cut my ear " they only concentrate on their gear, steering or their bottle of ogogoro...They cannot drive without cigarette, majority are lovers of consulate or saint moritz cigarette.

Make I leave it... Me and my friends, we were fun of always entering molue with no destination without kobo in our pocket... When its time for money, we go form school boys and people will start begging for us... Leave them naa, them be children... Them be student..
Until we enter one going from Oshodi to Ikorodu, the two conductors are beasts, we reach Agric we wan rush jump down dey run, the two wicked guys trapped four of us, seized one leg of our slippers, run enter molue.... Chai, see wahala, na so we self rush follow them jump enter the molue, begin make trouble, las las na Last bus stop dey wait give us our slippers with the intervention of the driver and other old mama and papa.

Re: Remember The Bolekaja And Molue Era Of Transportation? Your Experience? by rinzaugustine:
Reminds me of Lagos of 20 years ago when oshodi was oshodi. The bus was fun then in the sense you can buy practically everything you need from hawkers from toothbrush to breakfast and fares were very cheap. The major disadvantages were the the fights between conductors and people who refuse to pay, pick pockets were rampant and the pollution from the farts they were releasing inside those buses would collapse a grown man if they were not strong enough to withstand the odious smell

I was once a conductor on these legend buses and I used the money to sponsor myself to university but I was surprised all most 99.9% of conductor nowadays are drugs load, tout and mentally detailed set of people.I really thank God for myself that I was able to remain focused throughout my years as a conduxtor.

I remember back in 1984 when I used to go out with my little boy, who was just ten years old at the time. He absolutely loved the experience of jumping onto the bus and enjoyed every moment of it. Now, he’s all grown up.

A friend who wasn't resident in Lagos came to Lagos to do IT. He saw people inside Molue and felt pity for them thinking they were prisoners on their way to Correctional centers.
