I boarded bolekaja from Beere Oje to Apete Town in Ibadan for the first time. As for molue, it was countless time here in Lagos but the most interesting was from Obalende to Ikeja in 1983. So much fighting inside that Mercedes Benz molue that day.............. cheesy Life can be funny and awkward sometimes.

Molue was a saving grace for me back then especially on Sundays during Deeper Life combined services at Gbagada or Ayobo. Their fares were cheap compared to those danfo buses. Oshodi used to be the main park for Molues for those of us around that axises.
Then during December retreats along Lagos/Ibadan expressway, Molues used to come to our rescue with their low transportation charges. At times, I end up not paying the conductors because they are usually two conductors in modules, so playing a fast one on them was very easy.

The funny thing is that BRT is still doing the revised version of moule now.

How can people pay with card and still chose standing in a BRT?

Reminds me of Lagos of 20 years ago when oshodi was oshodi. The bus was fun then in the sense you can buy practically everything you need from hawkers from toothbrush to breakfast and fares were very cheap. The major disadvantages were the the fights between conductors and people who refuse to pay, pick pockets were rampant and the smell farts they were releasing can collapse a grown adult if you were not strong
The rotten fart odour is unforgettable

😂😂😂😂

I remember back in 1984 when I used to go out with my little boy, who was just ten years old at the time. He absolutely loved the experience of jumping onto the bus and enjoyed every moment of it. Now, he’s all grown up.
🤥
Going with this you must be at least 70.

I remember 2007 when person give me one large sum for Onipanu bus stop to deliver am for person wey dey work for Nigerian breweries. She specifically told me to enter molue and make I no enter danfo cos of one chance wahala. I even remember one time like that when i dey go from Iyana ipaja to Oshodi and na standing i come dey.... na one fine girl dey my front for the aisle wey we jam pack like sardine, na so my prick come dey hard, I dey press my dick enter her bumbum and whenever the driver match break lasan, na full enjoyment for me o.... na when d girl get down for her bus stop and come dey look me I come realize dat she knew what I was doing.... I think molue is still operating some routes in Lagos sha, though they are very few now.

Molue era is enough for film makers to make many comedy series.
Good old days. You missed out one important part though; the never-ending traders and itinerant doctors selling different wonder-drugs that can heal virtually every type of illness under the sun.

Many GenZs can never relate to these things:-
1. The fear and agony of being taken beyond your busstop by the half-drunk driver.

2. The euphoria of successfully fighting your way inside a molue bus during rush hours.

3. The pungent odour oozing out of different unwashed and hairy armpits hanging over your head in the sweltering heat as passengers hold on to the support bars running across the length of the molue.

4. The mixture of fear and excitement that pulses through your bloodstream as you hang precariously on the steps of the molue, holding on for dear life and praying to God that you don't fall off

5. The tokens the bus conductors hand you to indicate your "change". You're expected to return these tokens in order to get your balance from the ever-angry conductors. No token, no balance.

God! Those were the days! So many memories.

so much progress, Nigeria has gone from corrupt government, to civil servant terrorists.
From stealing the money, to outright murder of the population.
from 50 naira to 1 dollar , to 2000 naira to one dollar.
From lack of electricity, to insecurity.

Ah, the Bolekaja and Molue era—memories that flood the heart with nostalgia, and sometimes with a touch of humor and disbelief. If you ever hopped on one of those Molues, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The sheer chaos of squeezing into an overcrowded bus, with its creaky metal frame and the constant sounds of honking, shouting, and the distinct smell of sweat and street food in the air. It was more than just a mode of transport; it was an experience, a daily adventure that prepared us for anything life threw our way.

Remember those “Bolekaja” rides? For those who don’t, “Bolekaja” was a term used for the ride where you had no choice but to hold on tight to anything you could grasp, as the driver navigated through Lagos traffic like a skilled acrobat. If you didn’t sit by the window, you were in for an uncomfortable ride, with the heat from the engine and the packed seats pushing you closer to a full-blown sauna experience.

The Molue buses, on the other hand, were like mini communities on wheels. Each one had its own vibe, its own rhythm. Some were noisy with conversations and music, others quiet with just the hum of the engine. And the conductors—how could we forget them? Their skill in balancing the chaos while collecting fares was unparalleled, often yelling out destinations with such passion you’d swear they were on a mission to give a performance.

But in the midst of the madness, there was a strange sense of camaraderie. People helped each other find space, shared their stories, and sometimes even forged friendships amidst the noise. The Molue and Bolekaja weren’t just transport—they were a slice of life in Lagos. It was a different world, and if you were lucky, you’d come away with a story, a memory, or maybe a new perspective on the unpredictability of daily life.

How about you? Do you have any unforgettable Bolekaja or Molue experiences that still make you smile—or cringe—when you think about them?

And when the conductors bang the sides of the molue body, at high speed, dem nor born heady drivers not to steer clear 😁😁😁

Those bros who don't have money to pay always stand close to the back door and their drama with the conductor was always interesting grin

I remember one time I was on my way from Abule Egba to Oshodi and this local preacher was preaching..after preaching, bros start to ask for donations and guess what,he started from #10k! 10 thousand, from people inside molue o grin grin all those yoruba women shouting "amin, amin, amen" all suddenly kept quiet grin
From 10k he went to 5k,still no response and time dey go....walai Baba finally got to #5,as in,5naira..that was when people reason am come begin donate grin

If you are seated say in the middle of the crowded bus and you don't get up in time and meander your way towards the door before the molue gets to ya bus stop, omoh, when you shout "owa" when bus don reach ya bus stop and you are still by the middle of the bus, passenger go tell you ya life story finish that day 🤣🤣🤣

Some women self dey get konji too...na so dem go use style rest their boobs on your body and you will be trying to hide ya erctn niggga grin grin grin
