Why did an accounting graduate go for masters instead of ICAN/ACCA. If he can’t get jobs in the major places he can start from small audit firms and work his way up. Sometimes you can have all the qualifications and have poor interpersonal skills or look like an agbero. The story looks made up
Before your start an audit firm, you MUST be chattered with considerable experience plus you would have a reference who MUST own an accounting firm or possibly FCA.

This story is real most of us won't believe it because we are not a victim of the circumstance.

I really doubt this story!

One of the hottest jobs in that country is Accounting!

Unless your friend didn’t charter.

I was an Accountant for 10 years and I know that field in that sh*t hole…

Patapata he go join audit trainee

Unless na old guy
Tribe, man know man dey wait for the person,

If the person is from favoured tribe, then fiam he gets the job almost immediately, if he is not he will struggle and struggle like the Op friend even for a cleaner job not to talk of intern or trainee role till eternity.

This is another reason people are fleeing from the country in droves

This is why Kemi was very very very annoyed, because she has seen how the system operates over there consistently over the years compared to the Nigerian system

E be like say you dey talk from diaspora. You no know how naija be
Masters and NBA are not what they used to be, even in the so-called diaspora. Millions of Americans have masters and are doing jobs that don't require them.
Experience and specialized certificates are way more important than any Masters or NBA degree.

There are many people with Masters degrees working as waiters in the US. It's not peculiar to Nigeria alone.

Even abroad, PhD students moonlight as Uber drivers.

No guarantees anywhere.

You must be proactive.

Re: The Sad Reality Of Nigeria Master Degree Holders by laivwire(m):
We all should realise that only 10 - 15% of the world's growing population is involved in creating solutions while the remaining 85% are consumers. You need to create value to earn either through your own venture or helping other creator ideas. There's only so much the 15% can do for everyone else.

If you want to work in your field of passion, create a portfolio and market yourself. You will either get hired freelance, as an employee or as a business. If you cannot create value on your own then you are only joining other peoples business to consume.
Re: The Sad Reality Of Nigeria Master Degree Holders by MT:
See here lies the trend in Nigeria.

You finish your Bsc, next year you go for your masters, how can you make the best of your masters?. Instead for them to work in the industry for a few years, then determine specific pathway where he wants to gain more knowledge, then go for masters in that area. That way, he can relate the practical work to what he is being taught at the masters level What do you then relate when you have zero work experience?

Sometimes people are greeted with badluck,
It's not his fault, he needs prayers of deliverance.
It happens always, even people with lesser qualifications get white collar jobs, it's all about luck and God's help and grace

The problem most times is not the government but the individuals.

Question: Why study an MSc. if you are not going to pursue a career in lecturing in the near future? There are some things that are not well-placed.
Re: The Sad Reality Of Nigeria Master Degree Holders by VanuatuWycombe:
Most of Nigerian employers know that Nigeria’s post grads are craps. Student settle their lecturers to get many of those degrees.
Some don’t even leave home for school until they want to write exams or defend their theses.

We shouldn’t forget that there’s no better job at home.

Those going to LBS have money or come from wealthy homes and are well connected. Some use the study to get better connections and change their jobs.

But all these LAU, EKS, ABKS, OO, UD, UB etc dem, walahi talahi, na wash full am. I know them plenty.

If your field of BSc has professional certification and the certification is being conducted in NIgeria only or Africa, abeg forget it. No do that certification. It can’t cut anything.

If the certification is from the WEST and it’s well recognized, you stand a good chance of being able to use it in Nigeria or in the West when you japa.

NNPC and Total energy rejected my very intelligent wife because she is 30 years old.

Kindly note;

My wife graduated with Second class upper Hons (4 Point something)

MBA Marketing option

Has over 4 years work experience as a Commercial assistant

SAP certified

Interned at an international airport

Now back to school to get her MBA certificate due to unemployment.

Welcome to Nigeria, where you spend millions on education and have nothing to show for it...
Re: The Sad Reality Of Nigeria Master Degree Holders by TemporaryHansel(m):
I had a friend who always complained that if he had the knowledge he had now( this was like three years ago) he wouldn't have done masters degree, that it is useless. This was someone that almost made first class in his first degree, and had first class in Masters. We talked extensively on the topic.
Almost all graduates think they have everything figured out, until reality happens to them. Well, some people go to school for the sake of attending school.

So your friend wants to analyze financial data and become a business intelligence expert, and he has not bothered to do a certification in that line.

What a joker.

You chose the WRONG qualification to pass the right message.

If your FICTIONAL Emmanuel was half as smart and ambitious as you painted him to be, then he'd have gotten his ICAN accreditation and find his way into a Big 4 Accounting Firm through their ROBUST Internship programmes.

Next time you want to tell a cock-and-bull story, make it BELIEVABLE!

grin
Either you are one of the people that fuel retrogression or one of the few privileged once among our country men otherwise you would have known that wether it is fiction or real, the subject is reality across the land. Poor education system, corruption, nepotism, tight conditions to secure loan for a start-up-biz, man who knows man system etc are responsible for the above subject and of cause reality for many across the land. Be honest how many of your college mates are practicing what they studied or don't you know that inability of trained personal to practice their profession slow down a nation growth? Not everything is politics and not every defence is Patriotism

The joy we find in bringing our country down is why we are where we are. You rarely find a Nigerian with a positive spirit . This story is simply to dissuade the youth further that education is no means to an end. Off course if your Emmanuel is real, there would always be something he can do to alleviate his situation rather than grumble about not having a job. Government don't create jobs, individual does. The mentality that our government should create jobs is why we are where we are. America economic thrive on individual owned businesses no matter how little it pays their bill and afford them to pay their tax.
