Can I Use English Proficiency From Obafemi Awolowo University by iamsamdeyking(op): 3:57pm On Dec 18, 2024
I’ve been trying to apply to a school in the UK and they told me to submit a proof of Eng. I emailed them that my first-degree was thought in English, but I was required to submit a proof that line with the UK ECCT.

Do my agent said Nigeria is known as an English speaking country by the UK government provided one submit a proof of first-degree thoughts in English please I’m confused.

Should I proceed submitting my application or I should get the document by the UK government that is meant for non-majority English speaking country thank you you

To clarify, here’s the situation based on your description:

Nigeria and English Proficiency: Nigeria is considered an English-speaking country by the UK government for visa and academic purposes. If you completed your degree in English from a recognized Nigerian institution like Obafemi Awolowo University, this often suffices as proof of English proficiency.

UK ENIC (formerly UK NARIC): Some institutions or organizations may require proof that your degree meets UK standards for English proficiency. This is where the UK ENIC Statement of Comparability or English Language Proficiency Statement (ELPS) comes in.

This document verifies that your degree was taught in English and aligns with UK educational standards.

Steps to Take:

Contact the University: Confirm with the UK institution whether submitting a letter from Obafemi Awolowo University (stating your degree was taught in English) would meet their requirements.
Consider UK ENIC if Necessary: If the UK institution insists on an official UK ENIC certificate, you will need to apply for it. You can do this online, but it involves some fees and processing time.

Next Steps:
If the school accepts a letter from your university, request a formal letter or certificate from Obafemi Awolowo University confirming that your degree was taught in English.

If the school insists on UK ENIC certification, proceed to obtain the document.

Should You Proceed?:
Yes, proceed with your application but clarify the specific requirements with the institution. Having the document from UK ENIC ready may be useful if the institution insists.
