FIFA Player of the Year is bigger. Ballon d'Or is awarded by one French institution. I don't even know why it's so highly rated. There was a time I even thought it was same as FIFA Player of the Year. Now, after reading this, I'm wondering, which one is FIFA the Best again?

Thats because from 2010-2016, Fifa partnered with them to give out "Fifa BallonD'or". During those periods, the two institutions give out just one award until their franchise ended


And the BDO isnt just awarded by an institution, its being awarded by one french newspaper....Again, na Newspaper award

Are you kidding me? Ballon Dor is now way bigger than Fifa award.

The run ups, anticipation, engagements, preparations for the actual Ballon dor event usually starts months before which showcases the prestige and importance attached to it by players and coaches alike.

Fifa best on the other hand has deteriorated massively. I mean many people did not even know the date of this year's award until the event started. It didn't hit nairaland fp until a whole day after it ended.

Messi did not even deem it fit to collect last year's fifa award as its winner.

Lewandowski won fifa twice but still feels hollow that he never got his hands on the real deal.

I can go on and on with examples, but it wasn't like this before.

Prior to 2008 when fifa award and ballondor were merged, fifa award was the more recognized and Ballon dor was more like consolation award, now the positions are reversed.
