This is why the autonomy for the LGA given by the Supreme Court is neither here nor there. So long as the governor still have power over the House of Assembly cases like this will continue and the governor will always win.
So the problem is from our constitution which is flawed with irregularities.

..the local government autonomy given by the supreme court was only on financial autonomy.. where local government can receive their allocation directly from the federal government.. without receiving it through their state governors

The power is an illegal power they conferred on themselves. LGAs are by the constitution to be administered democratically, in w democracy, you cannot suspend an elected official, you can only go through the process of impeachment. That State Assembly arrogated to themselves the illegal power to suspend democratically elected LG Chairmen is a constitutional aberration which the Supreme Court of your country has ruled to be illegal. Every Local Government in Nigeria has legislative arm just like the House of Assembly for State and National Assembly for Federal, to remove a Chairman, let his people who are members of the legislative house take that decision not some hallelujah boys in the State House of Assembly being controlled by one Governor. Mr educated fellow.

If you are talking about the number, they were not suspended collectively. they were suspended individually on the same date.
It is not unconstitutional to do so.

What you should be saying is for the chairmen to head to court if they feel they were treated unjustly....

This Edo State governor seems not to know what he is doing. He appears to behave like that governor in Kaduna and Kano States.
He doesn't have the authority to request for their financial records if the amended LG constitution from the FG has already stipulated an auditor general for the LGAC.
I just hope this governor is literate enough to read legal documents because he might be in for a serious issue before the expiration of his first tenure if he continues this way about governance and admnisration.

The constitution is clear on the issue of LG autonomy. The recent Supreme Court judgement expounded the provision of section 7 (1) that governors must ensure the existence of democratically elected LG councils. In fact, the effect of the judgement is that it basically nullifies any provision in any Local Government Law that empowers the governor to unilaterally suspend a Local Government Council.

Where does Okpepbolo even think he has the authority to do that from? The Supreme Court has clarified the constitutionality of this practise in the case of AGF V AG, Abia & 36 ors. That decision is binding on lower courts. There's no magic any court will perform.

Those state Laws empowering the governor to dissolve LG councils have been declared unconstitutional. Even if cases of this nature continues, the Supreme Court and all lower courts foe that matter will continue to reverse the Governor's suspension

State Assembly can suspend the Governor, not to talk of LG Chiefs. Shebi State Assembly removed Joshua Dariye, DSP Alamesiagha, Rashidi Ladoja, Ayo Fayose a.k.a. I’m in severe pains, and one other Northern governor like this wey dey serve 13 years imprisonment.

Trust JAGABAN, he will do something about the nonsenses that governors will be using State Assemblies to do over LGs. JAGABAN will pull the rug under the state governments again. LG Autonomy must be total and complete

I am a Nigerian living in the UK. Yet I have all the years taken my time to understand the Nigerian constitution.
When I went into real estate I took my time to understand what the law says about tenancy, landlord etc....
There nothing I don't know about laws guiding the oil sector.

I am sponsoring a few councilors in my local government for the next councilorship elections. I never paid attention to that level of government before now. But the last two month I feed myself with everything I need to know at that.
Most Nigerians don't even know the first thing about the constitution.
