...because you're a big hypocrite. The sensible poor also know that the bill have very little or no effect on them. Yet, you and your folks consistently use them to sell your narratives. What's the effect of the bill on market women, kiosk and small business owners with non-salary Opay and Moniepoint accounts?

JASONjnr:
Alot of lazy politicians are sponsoring ignorant Nigerians to make comments against the bill...

But it's obvious that the bill will pass through and many governors will have to think out of the box to generate internal revenues and make use of their resources rather than always calling on the FG for everything.

When the bill is passed.... Nigerians will begin to know which governor is intelligent or dull.

If you make a mistake to vote based on sentiment, the entire state will suffer for it.
What if the likes of Justice Kekere-Ekun or INEC removes the person you voted for and install the one that paid bribe like they did in Imo, effectively destroying the state?

The reforms isn't beneficial to poor Nigerians
You don't know what you are saying. I am 100% certain that you have never researched these reforms and your sole source of information is second hand info from places like Nairaland and Twitter.

These tax reforms propose to remove income tax entirely for people who earn under 1mn naira annually. That isn't beneficial to poor Nigerians??

It also proposes to remove VAT from essential items and place it on luxury items only. That doesn't benefit poor Nigerians??

You have a deep rooted type of mental laziness. So shameful.

You clearly don't have a clue. It is not one bill but a pack of 4 bills collectively pushing tax reforms that touch on different areas including the removal of income tax for the poor. Smh.

Do you know any kiosk owner, shop owner, market woman, etc. in your neighborhood that pays "income tax"? Shake your head very well. These are the actual "poor people" and they pay more tax (indirect/multiple) than the so called "income tax." I do not understand how the tax bill affects the woman who has to pay money to at least 3 unions from local and state government, one baale (king/chief), touts, POS vendors, etc.

Hello pls what brought Lagos into this?

Pls have you even read the bill at all? Nigeria doesn't belong to Lagos yet you want all Nigerians to belong to obi by trying to force him down our throat so I'm telling you again and again Nigeria did not belong to obi nor his father neither his mother to think he is the only answer to Nigeria or to think everybody must vote for him. Obi is nobody I repeat nobody, get that fact.

Kiss the truth comrade!

Why haven’t this chairman considered sales tax since the emphasis is on “Consumption “ removing taxes of items you never taxed to begin with is no brainer that you’ve got hidden agenda. Food and staples and other products you keep saying aren’t taxed were never taxed in the first place, The northern governors on the other hand have a valid argument but are not organized enough to put it on paper so that it can be debated and rational can be extracted from it and refined, instead they’ve quickly resorted to politics of calumny and religious intolerance and ethnic jingoism. This is not how to build an ideal egalitarian society with equal distribution of wealth. Of all weirdness in the word , Nigeria is a “weirdly” weird place tbh😪😭🤷🏾‍♂️🌚
Food and Staples are tax exempt at the moment. Oyedele is saying there should be zero percent VAT applied to them instead of them just being tax exempt. This means if you produce rice, in addition to you charging no tax for the rice to consumers, you would also file an application to get tax refunds for the taxes charged on costs of production.
The purpose of tax exempt laws are to remove taxes relayed to consumers thereby reducing costs. But Zero VAT goes beyond this to not only remove taxes for consumers but also provide incentives to producers.

Any time you people want to talk nonsense you start with meaningless phrases. So there is a real poor and a fake poor?

So the blue collar worker earning 50k which is probably much lower than what the market woman earns, is not poor? And the so called market woman, does she buy basic good that have VAT?? When she buys medicine does she pay VAT on that? Can removing VAT on such make her less multi-dimensionally poor?

Is the blue collar worker registered for personal income tax? According to the Joint Tax Board, there are only 10 million people registered for personal income tax purposes in all the states of the federation including the FCT (40% of this population are based in Lagos). So much noise about nothing. Compare that figure to about 39 million micro business owners in Nigeria.

I don't want to go into that VAT conversation because it is a complete waste of time. The VAT nonsense has little or almost no effect on what the poor typically buys from the market. If you care about them, address the cost of fuel. This is one of the real issues affecting cost of goods/services, and not the VAT nonsense.

Every gain the government want to see via VAT removal has already vanished even before the policy document was released. It only takes an angry vendor or business owner to erode that gain.

If you care to follow my argument, you'll see why many policies don't work in Nigeria. We have mastered the act of ignoring our own realities only to run after shadows.

This comment smacks of illiteracy, when multiple taxes are eliminated, these kiosks and road side traders benefit even more. The multiple taxes and illegal levies are a major headache for traders. See beyond the hate.

Mr Oyedele, you don't expect to be continuously praised ,for doing a Public Work, coming from the Private backgrounds.
Just keep the Focus.
Even the States that are not Producing anything, will also Condemn You,for their being Unentrepreneurship .
Many Northern States are not viable indeed, yet are only waiting for quarterly Oil Money, from Federation Accounts, but till date, they are Not Accountable for most of the Funds Collected since independence and they don't want to change.
Mr Oyedele -You are doing Great.👍

Why should you care? You are going to make in 1 year what you could not make in 20years of your professional career.

Tax reforms that dont address income generation for the people being taxed.

Tax reforms that does not address local production, the economy is in regression. Where are the businesses and individuals going to get money to pay your huge tax?

Okay. So is it Taiwo Oyedele's job to address the cost of fuel? Please remind me why you said he is a hypocrite again.

And since the context is tax, do share the tax reforms you feel would be non hypocritical.
