A video went viral on Social Media when the parents Segun Olowookere who was sentenced to death for stealing a fowl sent a message to the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke to grant their son amnesty by pardoning him from death sentence.

The mother said Segun only stole a fowl and was sentenced to death by hanging.

SOJ WORLDWIDE findings revealed that eyewitnesses confirmed that Segun was armed at the time the incident occured and that he was caught in the act.

"Justice Jide Falola of an Osun State High Court sitting in Okuku has sentenced two robbers to death for stealing fowls.


The convicts, Olowookere Segun and Morakinyo Sunday, were found guilty of forcefully breaking into the house of one Mr. Balogun Tope, a police officer attached to Divisional Police headquarters, Okuku, in April 2010 and carting away some of his belongings.

The convicts were charged with conspiracy, robbery and stealing contrary to Section 6(b) and 1(2)(a) of Robbery and Firearm (Special Provisions) Act, cap R 11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section (390)(1) Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002.

The prosecution team, led by the state Solicitor-General, Mrs Abiola Adewemimo, called six witnesses and tendered several exhibits during the prosecution.

The prosecution told the court that on November 13, 2010, men were sighted around Balogun’s home armed with cutlass and a dane gun, and that while two of them were arrested, others escaped.

The convicts were said to have confessed that they stole the complainant’s fowls, adding that they had been in his house before to steal.

Adewemimo said: “They also stated that they had earlier robbed Alhaja Umani Oyewo in her house and stole broilers, eggs and kegs of vegetable oil from the house.”

In his judgment, Justice Falola convicted them on only three counts: to death for conspiracy; life sentence for robbery, and three years imprisonment for stealing.

Justice Falola recommended that the governor can decide to commute the death sentence to 10 years imprisonment, considering the convicts ages."

They stole two fowl while weilding dangerous weapons yes, jail time is okay, since they didn't kill anyone in the process.

What about terrorists who get pardoned after killing innocent people.?
What about kidnappers who unalive their victims after collecting ransom?

I strongly suspected that the young man was framed up by the police for his inability to come up with the bribe money. If the parent had paid, this case won't make it to court.
The Judge wasn't very convinced, he gave an option for the commuter of the death sentence to 10year impresionment.
We need to reform our Policing system in Nigeria.

That's my point you need to hear both side of the story, the poultry owner was not shot. They framed him with a dane gun and Cutlass. The poultry owner is a police officer. His parents couldn't pay the bribe money demanded. Others ran, the foolish boy trusting Nigeria system waited, thinking police will listen to his explanation.
The so called gangs was a story line, believe me.
I heard a case of a woman selling by a business stop on Ikeja who was arrested when police raided her area. Others call their families to bail themselves (the raid must have been for funds raising) but she didn't, claiming she had done nothing as she can explain herself. By night, the an officer on duty wanted to sleep with her and she refused, she was eventually arranged in court as an armourer for armed robbers and group with certain individuals whom she had never met, the woman spent years in prison before an NGO picks up her case. Whether she's freed now is what I cat say. It's a serious case my brother

Just looking at your analogy I can see that it's a water of time and effort responding to you.
I still ask, how can you sentence someone to death for stealing chickens? The poultry owner wasn't shot, nobody was killed. Infact the charge read was armed robbery not homicide Do your research properly.
