Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has regained his freedom after being released from the Kuje Minimum Custodial Centre in Abuja, News360 Nigeria reports.

His release, confirmed on the evening of December 20, 2024, followed the fulfillment of stringent bail conditions, including a ₦500 million bond mandated by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Bello's return home was marked by jubilant celebrations, with supporters and allies, including current Kogi Governor Usman Ododo, gathering at his residence to welcome him.

Videos of the occasion quickly circulated online, showcasing the former governor in high spirits amidst cheers and applause.

Adamu Duza, Bello’s spokesperson, confirmed the development, emphasizing that all legal protocols were adhered to in the process.

The former governor, along with co-defendants Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu, is facing a 16-count charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges include conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and unlawful possession of property, stemming from an alleged ₦110 billion fraud during his tenure.

Bello and his co-accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges, and the case is expected to continue as the EFCC pursues its investigation.

Politicians are not the only problem of this country but the judiciary also, a man stole billions of Naira, didn't spend up to a month in prison, was given bail of millions that's not up to 5% of the alleged amount he stole.

A young man in Osun stole a fowl with eggs, spent over 12 years in prison and a judge still had the guts to condemn him to death, if not for the intervention of the governor, he would have been hanged or spent his entire life in prison for something not worth up to 5k when he committed the crime.

Imagine those that didn't have the luck of an intervention by their respective governors, imagine those that are still in prison because they returned late from an event then some irresponsible police officers arrested them, or those that committed petty crimes who've been left for dead in prison still waiting for their trial date or even those that the rich among us has decided to oppress.

Bello is a tip of the iceberg. When APC is a disgrace to itself, then who is Bello. You guys should cover your heads in shame. Everything is at its lowest erb in it's years of reign. Politicians that should in sane climes be behind bars are walking freely without shame and recycling themselves. Most have corrupt cases around their necks and the judiciary just looks away? It's so sad. Unfortunately we'll continue like this cause of bad precedence like this
