My younger brother went through the same story shared by OP but today he is a billionaire and funny he later read accounting after withdrawal from medicine in year three....He refused other health science courses offered him, left unilorin completely. He did another Jamb and got admitted as accounting student in unilag but glory be to God,today he is highly successful with mega property company and even planning to have an hospital where he would employ staffs and just serve as administrator.

Our success is not determined by our professional discipline but by our ability to excel in whatever discipline we find ourselves. We have successful mechanics and failed medical doctors. You can be very successful as a Microbiologist.

This is the spirit and mindset man. Great you came out stronger and exceptional again after all the academic adventures. Some training in the crucible of life are just stepping stones to greater glory.
I have been looking for all these stories from Zikoko stable. Stories on struggle, failure, hardship then success. Keep them coming

shocked What an incredible twist and turns life somethings throws @ humanity. Studying medicine has really humbled a lot of people especially brilliant folks. I know one girls that almost took her own life. However, everyone has his God-ordained destiny.

Many hearty congratulations for sharing your experiences man. It is really traumatising but you made the best lemonade from the lemon life threw @ you. More heights to attain sir. Cheers!
Same as Pharmacy. I was not surprised that he reported that the Dean of Pharmacy outrightly rejected him. If he can't cope in Medicine then he obviously will not be able to cope in Pharmacy,
While MBBS kicks them out mostly in Part 1 exam, Pharmacy kicks students out even at 500/600 level! They are more brutal.

I am so happy for him and I'm glad that he learned his lessons well. Some courses are difficult but for as long as others can pass the course so can you.

If you had the means and had travelled abroad, you would have passed effortlessly.

The Nigerian educational system is just too stressful. Making you take courses you will never ever need.

You will never have failed if you had studied abroad
That's a lie oh! Medicine is hard everywhere in the world.

This piece parallels my experiences alot. Sometimes I wonder why I did not just study mathematics. Was hitting near perfect scores in college. Took the national Olympiad and cowbell exams in 2007.
Higher institution can be tasking for some people. I've met and still meeting depressed undergraduates. Schools ought to have a very active guidance/counselling unit. It could turn things around for a good number of struggling students

Interesting story... But the ultimate goal is to make money not to graduate with first class.. These days those that didn't even write jamb are among the richest grin
Say it loud my brother.

Many people are earning more than most medical doctors today due to the changing world we are in.

Sometimes "discipline beats intelligence". Somethings are not meant for us not matter how much we try, so it is better we find where we fit in,in life and and align.

I was expecting that application to Pharmacy in your story grin Back then in school, the dean will tell us 'Better tell your friends that failed MB, not to apply here. Pharmacy is not a dump site' lol.

Congratulations, you just brought back school memories. I had same experience from close friends

Wow...I love the way you shared your experience. One of my brothers had a similar case but he said it's either medicine or engineering. He switched to engineering but it was not easy it took him many years. But the end justifies the means. He was very rich now and he did not regret anything. You ought to have gone for tech provided you have a good counsellor or tutor in secondary school. You would have shined very well in tech. I do advice young people growing up, that subject you sabi very well in your secondary school if it's Maths go for tech, if it's Biology go to medical school. If you are very good in Maths in secondary school go for tech or engr course such as Mech, Civil or Electrical. If you are sure you are very good in Biology go for Medical course Med and surgery, Pharm, Med lab, etc

I was withdrawn from Mechanical Engineering because of 10-8-8 and switched to Surveying and Geoinformatics (Geoinformatics Engineering -- frying pan to 🔥😁). I spent 6 years in FUTMINNA and to God be the glory. Am going places as a SURVEYOR

A touching story indeed. Mine was having lower for 5 consecutive semesters from year 1 until I resolved that it would not weigh down my ambition. To the glory of God my last three semesters were great and I graduated with upper.

So sorry, but life goes on.
Trust that God knows the better for you.

LESSON:
Let's stop dreaming other's dream for our children.
Rather, discover their abilities and and encourage them.
Only God establishes destiny

I was quite good from foundation as well.
Went from home to school all through.
But getting into the university hostel, I suffered to adapt with congestion and poor environment.
My academic response started declining cos I hated the whole system.
Unfortunately, no good advice nor finance to think of something or somwere else.
A guru as I was struggled to finish with 3.29 over 5.
LESSON:
The results from our Nigerian schools are not all the times reflections of our potentials

I wrote jamb 8 times because I insisted I must study medicine. My lowest score was 238. Im all these attempts I beat the cut off mark of all the institutions I applied in. Even when Unijos had a cutoff of 265 for MBBS I scored 288 that year. But still I never got admission in any of the schools I applied for. The Nigerian factor was frustrating. Ethnic and tribal politics played a part.

As much as I had that dream, I had to move on. But sometimes I wonder if I'd not have been a brilliant doctor. Nigeria wastes potentials. But one way or another, we must keep pushing.
Same here!!. Igbos at a time began to rewrite waec with names from EDUCATIONALLY DISADVANTAGED STATES, Some even changed their states of origins to RIVERS,DELTA ETC.
IT WAS TERRIBLE THEN,But thank God some of ùs survived it.

Your grade in school might not be your true worth sometimes. When I was in school each time assignment was given I would go do research and whenever I was done my coursemates copied from what I did including the guy that was topping the class.I didn't come as the best but the copied from me.
God knew why he took you through that trajectory. No one is a failure until he or she gives up.

When you realize that the problems you face is the fuel for the solution you seek...you'd always be fired up.. there must be only two questions after each failure. How do I benefit from this occurrence ? And how do I respond?

Thank God for the testimony of how you have moved on strongly.

Indeed, Nigeria waste potentials.
Won't be wrong to imagine if you were born in UK or US.
My advice to youth applying for University, don't be fixated on a particular course. Grab the first 4 years program and then your first degree. With that victory you can continue planning for that your big dream, if it still qualifies as an interest or thing to you. Imagine 8 years writing Jamb not because you failed, meanwhile those with far lower marks where getting into school and pursuing a target even if not in their dream.
Most times life is speaking to us or literally showing us the direction but we are not listening.
