Ten persons have been confirmed dead in a stampede at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, on Saturday, 21st December 2024, during the distribution of food items to vulnerable and elderly persons, News360 Nigeria reports.

The tragic event, which happened at about 6:30 am, claimed the lives of ten (10) individuals, including four (4) children, and left eight ( 8 ) others with varying degrees of injuries.

Four (4) of the injured have been treated and discharged, while the remaining victims are receiving medical care.

The FCT Police Command in a statement released by its spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident and sympathised with the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Now, this is worrisome. The church has tight and small spaces so one would have expected them to coordinate the distribution in an organised manner.

The tragic incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. and claimed the lives of ten people, including four children. Eight others sustained various degrees of injury.

People will want to blame the organizers of the distribution but the truth is that they have been doing it yearly. The real problem is the hunger. Everyone knows.

Nigerians no dey hear word
I want us to note that most of the stampedes we have had in recent days has not really being the fault of Organizers but the stubbornness and stewpeedity of Nigerians.
We never listen and follow instructions.
So even when organisers say follow door A, you will see Nigerians at door B, C, D and some at G.

Tell Nigerians to queue up and form a straight line and you will see a circle with hundreds of people in the middle.

My sons we stock in traffic after going bowling at Twin Waters a few days ago. I was told the traffic light at Marwa was working but some people ran the red lights and blocked the road... They got home about 11pm.

We are never orderly and when we are told to behave we get mad....

The problem with Nigeria is not and I repeat it's NOT the politicians.
The problem with Nigeria is "The Nigerian Mindset".

We want Nigeria to be like the sanner clins but we behave insane.

Are we going to import citizens who will behave on our behalf?

We call them sanner clines because the residents of those countries act sane...

Government should immediately impose a temporary ban on gathering like this to save more lives.

Chai. This stampede eventually went round the country, from south west to south east and now to the North. This is not good at all. There is damning hunger round the country and the government is turning blind eyes.

This is an undeniable proof of the pervasive hunger and financial struggles Nigerians are facing since Tinubu assumed office. I remember when APC and Tinubu use to blame Jonathan for everything claiming they will do better. See where we are today

It's a pitiable situation the level these politicians particularly APC have reduced Nigerian citizens to. Hunger is a monster devouring almost everything in Naija while the politicians are living like kings at the expense of the masses.
