I know, but it will still better than here

During that period you cannot see 800 meat in my place but I do buy 200 in Bauchi
Bauchi. I also did my nysc there. I remember when I came out of camp and went to the local govt I was posted to. It was night and I was hungry. Asked the suya guy to sell me N1000 suya. There was shock on his face as well as other people wanting to buy suya. People around said no I should not and I insisted that I'm hungry. They told the suya guy to make it N200 suya. When he cut it, I was shocked. I definitely would hv died if he had cut N1000 suya. N200 was even too much but since I was coming from Lagos, I didn't know. This was in 2007

stagger:
A bag of new hope feed is 27,000. That's N1,080 per kilo of feed.
A chicken of 6-7 weeks will consume 4.85kg of feed minimum. So 500 chickens will eat about 2,245 kg of feed, which is N2,619,000.
Feed alone ooo!

A day old chick (Agrited) bought 7 weeks ago for rearing against Christmas was sold at N1750. Something we used to buy at N280 before BAT came. So if you buy 500 Agrited chicks, you would have spent 875,000. Some of those chicks will surely not make it to maturity. Some will eat your feed for 2 weeks, 3 weeks, and then give up the ghost.

Then you have vaccines, medications, you have to buy fuel, wood shavings, etc. Then you will pay your workers. Assuming you have 2 guys on minimum wage, that is N140,000. Multiply by two months, because that is how long it takes to raise, then market your chickens before sale. That's N280,000.

You can do the Maths. Next year, feed will be costing N40,000 a bag. The maize harvest this year was poor because of flooding. The flood that took over Borno state destroyed a vast amount of maize farms and stores.

You Nigerians do not know what you are in for in 2025. Some will start to eat lizards and frogs and rat meat for Christmas.
Eat lizard, rat, frog kee. Are you cursing Nigerians? Nigerians are passing through tough time in the history of Nigeria , so don't put more curse on them grin angry angry grin grin grin

Haha.....I guess you missed my post where I said I am a Farmer and FeedMiller. I have worked with all the Top Feedmillers in this country so I can confidently say that I am an authority on this topic

Yes, Feedmillers use Maize, Soya e.t.c. for feed production. Toll Millers and farmers that mill by themselves seem to try to cut corners but they end up burning their fingers because the quality will be poor. For your information.....Feedmillers IMPORT Maize and Soya as we speak most Maize and Soya used for feed production is imported. Someone mentioned CONCENTRATES for feed production, those things are not by products of anything, they are carefully and specially produced to deliver the intended goal of high nutrition. Poultry nutrition has gone far Bro

Yes, as someone with little quantity of livestock you can use those Indomie and the rest you mentioned but what quantity can a farmer with 1000 birds get to feed his birds consistently.......it is not sustainable for middle scale farmers talk less of big farmers. Farmers with up to 50 birds can do it sha

And NO Sir not all poultry farmers inject their birds I don't know your own experience but I raised Broiler this season and I have sold 11 now. They r above 3 months now and they weighed 5kg at 11weeks.....NO INJECTIONS ,only feed and water. Of course I have a secret formula but it is purely ORGANIC.

By the way, my birds are purely organic, no antibiotics, no dewormer only Vaccines and my SECRET FORMULA
kayperry:
You think farmers use maize, soya edible for humans to do chicken feed, for where that will dwarf the profit

No be factory waste indomie and sphag we dey feed dog, which poor quality

I once rared chickens and turkey for a year, personal consumption i buy feeds from animal care, they were not lookin dummy fat, until you carry dem yu wont suspect they are heavy

what i learnt is most poultry inject there chicken for fast boost, they cant wait on the feeds

Despite all said, no one as given clear reasons to why these feeds are expensive

maize and soya are local sourced, so why the exorbitant prices

Someone mentioned the Flood that destroyed crops aside from that crops did not do well this year due to poor rainfall.....I guess that is not news na I believe we all know this.

Banditry has been around for sometimes now and e follow as many farmers were displaced and afraid to farm. Infact I saw this firsthand in Kaduna where all those Bandits did was to ask farmers to stay away from their farms if they want to be alive.

Most Soya world wide is GMO but Nigerian farmers have ORGANIC Soya. Most European countries has banned use of GMO crops due to its effects on human beings so many Nigerian farmers decided to make more money by selling to the White guys who flooded Nigerian Soya farmers even before harvest. Farmers saw an opportunity to earn in Dollars,if na me too I go export o.

The same GMO crops that the Europeans are avoiding is what is being imported as we speak as the situation has boxed us into a very precarious situation and we need to survive

If u say the Banditry and all those activities that crippled our crops is engineered to pave way for the GMO crops u might not be too far from the truth.

Most Maize and Soya used by our top Feedmillers currently are imported due to shortfall of locally produced ones.

To be fair to the Feedmillers, they tried to source locally and when demand is higher than supply, prices go up. Hence the rise in feed cost, Nigerian also get strong head too much. We also tried to avoid GMO I guess more reason we were boxed to accept it by force. Olam for instance had some farms where they planted Soya and Corn in Kaduna but they were chased away by Bandits from those farmland.......I was in Olam Kaduna then.

I see things normalize soon sha because we have embraced GMO crops for poultry feed production o

By the way Bros.......I no gree for this your 10k per 25kg bag of feed. I challenge you to prove your submission.
Not with the current costs of raw materials in the market now except you want to produce a substandard feed that Layer will not be able to lay even after 30 weeks of age and Broilers no go comot for ground
It’s not substandard and leave your number here and I can send you a free sample from our laboratory here in Ibadan.

The only condition is please you must share the results on nairaland here for everyone to see her publicly on here , if we were making substandard feed, I won’t be here advertising it

Just the same way a balanced diet meal for humans are made. Birds biological and digestive system is extremely similar to humans except from the grinder that grinds the grains they ingest , us in humans we use our teeth to do this .

But nutrients wise , chickens need exactly what we also need in different proportions such as carbohydrates, protein, fats and oil , vitamins and minerals

Bros I disagree with your submission that Mega Feedmillers don't have Farms.....

Olam has farm in Kaduna, they are currently the Biggest FeedMiller in Nigeria

Amo Byng Awe, Oyo state has farm.

Pls get your facts straight, na fear they make most of them dey avoid Poultry and Feedmilling is also not very lucrative margin wise. Na volume dem dey use cover face, FeedMill wahala no get part 2 talk less of adding Poultry wahala. But people wey get the muscle dey pull am
You only mentioned one or two where is ultima farm located, new hope farm , adva farm . Commercial feed millers don’t need poultry farms because they already make bastard money off Poultry farmers they sell to

If you take your time to study how poultry feed can be made and is made and you take your time to now plant the main ingredients or the main source of energy you need for it such as maize or groundnut

You will make so much money milling and pelletising the feed that blood ritual will struggle to cope

Guy, try understand that what you are talking about can only work for small scale farmers can't work for Middle scale farmers talk less of Large scale farmers

Ultima is produced by Olam by the way.

There are many value chains in the Poultry world, you take your own and allow others to take theirs. It is good to produce your own feed no doubt but you need to know that all these businesses get dia wahala and when you do them on large scale you would realize that it's better to stick to one.

Don't discourage those that want to start small and those who are big but want have peace of mind

It depends Bro, I am selling my over 3 months old Broilers that are weighing over 5kg at 25k and I have sold 12 now at home out of 50.

From 9 weeks of age u know that their consumption is high and I don't hold back in feeding my birds

The people that buy actually by 2 each because they all confirmed that it worths it.

I don't know the sizes people r selling at 25k but selling Birds at 25k worth it based on what you invested into it......that is what I am trying to also let u know.

If I can have your number I will send you the pics n videos of the birds, some farmers around me here are even saying that I am just doing give away but that is my own price they r free to sell at their own price. I also thought of using household food items to compensate the feeding but these can never be the same as their normal feed and the birds might drop weight. And to make sure I give value for what I am selling I am making sure the birds are heavy enough to give value to whoever buys the birds......I think it's safer this way

We can work together , there is a secret feed that can replace the mainstream commercial feed and it 100 percent works since broiler farming is all about weight

Also there are some periodic concoctions you put in thier drink to help them add weight without sacrificing bone growth or anything related

I have attached the current prices of feeds so you know i am in the business and I know what I am saying

It doesn’t make any sense to be selling any chicken in Nigeria for 25,000 naira

For crying loud you can almost make the feed for those birds absolutely for free and they will gain x4 of their weight every week from the day they arrive at 40-50 grams

Honestly house prices can go up , cars can go up but the hill I will die on is the price hike in feeds from commercial millers can’t just be passed on straight to the end user

It won’t work

My own broiler formulated feed cost 10knper 25kg .

For non poultry farmers reading this , feeds come in 25kg packaging by default

No wahala, thanks for the price list.....I need am sef to take run one package 😉. Meanwhile let me have your number so we can run the proposed trial. We can talk more.......I am loving this and we will share our results on Nairaland as u proposed.

Mind you, I am not doing this to ridicule u we will work it out together. I also wish we can produce table meat and eggs at a cheaper price.

But note o, I am a trained Quality Assurance personnel in Feedmilling and I will burst any attempt to alter Feed quality

This is my number ‪+234 707 751 3836‬. Research and colloboration is key , what some poultry farmers don’t realise is the type of elasticity of demand poultry products have

The higher the price the most likely people will either stop buying it or reduce how much they consume it

A good poultry farmer with a good business acumen can exploit the gap right now and raise his birds on cheap substitute feed and offer them for sale at almost half price the market price . He will end up selling more in sales compared to the 30k per chicken one

It’s better to sell a product for 12k and make a 5k profit on top and end up within 1,000 orders than to sell a product for 30k , make a 10k profit but get only 50’orders

A lot of people don’t reliase this , when something is too expensive, common sense tells us people would naturally go for something less expensive

I went to the suya-man, telling him i have big and matured broilers for sale. The day he came to see dem, he said these are not broilers but cockrels. That he does not do business with cockrels. Abi, is the white fowls not broilers again? And they were bought as broilers from day-old.

It took me 6 months to formulate the formula and when i started experimenting, i lost some chickens, before i eventually was able to get the best formula

How much do you have if you have up to 50,000 naira i can sell the recipe formula to you , most of the things inside are commonly available in nigeria

It will make you feed your flock 60 percent cheaper

Meaning your profit will be much more
