My condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives during the Okija rice stampede. May our state governments learn lessons from these frequent events and implement better fraud control mechanisms.

Stampedes can occur anywhere and at any time. They recently happened in South Korea, Israel, the U.S. and multiple European countries. When they occur, let us learn the needed lessons instead of politicising them based on what part of the country the incident rested its ugly head.

I don't know if this is true but someone said one man was alleged to have showed up with 17 children. Some others hired their neighbor's children to come with them. Even a woman with a few months old baby was said to be a victim. A full grown adult with a very young infant showed up to a fun fair organized for children. Its mind boggling.

There are so many stories flying around and hunger is the root cause of this tragic incident, but I wouldn't put it past the average Nigerian to try to be devious when trying to access palliatives. At the end, chaos ensues because of our penchant for lawlessness, disorderliness and cutting corners.

By 5 am, the area outside was packed, and despite the school gate being locked and school security personnel being present, the crowd forced their way in. Unfortunately, a stampede occurred around 7 am, When the organizers were still sleeping and the invited police personnel were suppose to report for duty at 8 am.

In my opinion, she does not deserve the death sentence. Instead, we should be encouraging and appreciating her efforts to help those in need. This country is facing hard times, and people are struggling to survive. Our politicians, whom we often praise, are heartless and unhelpful. Let us not discourage those who still have empathy and are willing to help others during these challenging times."

My question is that she will be appreciated for causing deaths of 35 children. This is one of problems of this country - inability of people that erred to accept responsibility and blame.

Despite and irrespective of her effort, the death incident was uncalled for and it means that no adequate plan was made to address this.

Let me ask,those school security men, deployed to close the gate, were they not aware or they re still sleeping at 7am when the stampede occured.

Manslaughter is not usually to do with intention. The key word is involuntary. In her case, the deaths were caused by negligence.
She didn’t recognize the impending danger that resulted in the deaths of the children.Though her actions were good, they somehow unintentionally resulted in the loss of lives.

you still don't get my point, the rush started as early as 5am and stamped occurred between 6 and 7am. The organizers couldn't have envisaged that people will go as far as sleeping over at the venue in order to get early entry.
Like you rightly said that people should take responsibility for their mistakes, I believe not only the organizers should be blamed, but the people too especially some parents that were throwing their children over the fence because of gifts.
