Only in Nigeria. A Disco dancing governor who only recently got his WAEC papers under questionable circumstances teaching a High Court Judge about Law! What happened to following judicial process of appealing against the judgment at a higher court?! No, we are fantastically corrupt and must demonstrate it even when there is no opportunity!

Human right lawyers have work to do, they need to go to the prison and fish out innocent Nigerians.

Some are in prison for the crime they did not commit.

Logically, the young man was a threat in their neighborhood.

Hence, a brilliant opportunity used against him and his friend.

Though, he didn't deserve to be sentence to death because he didn't murder anyone.

Many conspired to influence his disappearance in their community. Thanks God for his life and grace of a second chance.

Imagine what this young man has gone through since 2010 for the crime he didn't commit.

The way and manner investigations are conducted in Nigeria is so archaic, your enemy will lie against you, bribe the police and you are finished if you don't have anybody to defend you, they will come up with concocted and fabricated lies and force you to make a statement admitting to it, a lot of innocent people are languishing in prison

Thanks to social that's why the country was called nigeria...

Shut up...in as much as we sympathize with you, don't bring some stupid lies here . You and one other went to steal in the house of a police man, you guys went with a sword and a local made gun...but you guys were only able to steal Chicken from his poultry...you guys were arrested and taking to court...as far the law is concerned, the judgment was in line only that the judgement was too extreme. Considering the fact that you were a teenager then, the judge should have given a lighter punishment...

The gun was for what ?
You grab the issue very well

I don't believe this olowokere is completely innocent because when I was at age 15 we have one friend Like that who uses knife to fight and there was several occasions that he was reported of stealing, several times being bailed by the mother. So this case of being innocent I don't believe it otherwise an objective investigation should be conducted again

In justice it is better to let a thousand Guilty go free than convict one innocent soul. It is obvious that the case against this young man is never conclusively proved before sentencing him so it is better he is let go. I'm sure even if he is guilty, the second chance given him to life will change him. By the way why will a heartless judge convict someone to death for this minor crime, meanwhile same judge will let go of a thief that stole one billion public fund

It is better you free 1,000 criminals than to jail one innocent person.

The Nigeria judicial system is messed up.
I disagree.

in as much as the judgment was too extreme, they went with a local made gun. He should forget about the coming to tell lies just because people are sympathizing with him...
From the way you sound, you must be a uniform man or possibly your parents. A 17year old boy with gun to Rob 2 fowls and some eggs. You're pretending like you don't know what our policemen are capable of. The said uncle just wanted to teach the boy a great lesson. He never really meant the gun and cutlass but just to make the case serious. Tried bcoz his parents could not provide 30k and finally sentence to death by hanging. A 17yr old boy for crying out loud. The uncle, the police men that handled the case, the judge and presecutors are just wicked and evil to live among humans. It's pure injustice.

If you have ever been on a social work to a prison, ask any prisoner how they got there.

None of them is ever guilty...

😐

Wonderful
Because the guilty ones are walking, eating and enjoying freely while the innocent are being punished for the crimes of the guilty.
Re: Segun Olowookere: Real Reason I Was Sentenced To Death by chester23(m): 8:51pm On Dec 22, 2024
Nigeria is a foolish and laughable country.
Can you imagine a minor went to steal fowl and eggs with a gun.
Who does that?
A country when snake swallowed millions and till day no investigation or report on that, case closed
What a country?

A country where monkeys seeing that snake swallowed millions without being punished stoled their own and went free as well .
A country where graduates are unemployed as lack of experience, age limit, etc has rendered them unemployable but are ruled by illiterates who can only boast of Elementary and secondary school certificates they cant still provide.

A country where innocent people are languishing in jail's for crimes they didn't commit while the criminals are being celebrated.

I curse the day, I found myself in Nigeria.

INTEGRITYA1:
He said, “The DPO told me that one of the children confessed to stealing two broilers and some crates of eggs. I met the broilers and the eggs at the station. The children were eight in number. He told me the children said I was their gang leader, which I denied.

Either of these is what will likely played out and thorough investigation supposed to have revealed the truth

1. The guy committed the robbery but not armed as they make it looked but added it in order to crucified him.

2. He was innocent of that particular scenario but of questionable character. (In the report he said the complaint was his uncle and promised to withdraw the case after the family meeting was held because of that issue, but still went ahead to testify against him)

The judge sentenced him to death not just because of robbery charges but because of the narrative that he was armed with cutlass and gun, meanwhile that was what they presented before the judge.

But in all honesty we don’t really what played out because we were not there and there is no meaningful report on quality investigations for us to know what really played for us to have fair judgment.

We should try to be objective and not to be emotional; most especially if comes to criminal cases.

We’ve seen a situation where by people of younger age actually engaged in criminal activities, fully armed and even killed people in the process. What did law says if someone actually committed criminal activities (That is why we can not just crucify the judge) unless if we are so sure that they lied against the guy.

But in all thank God for people’s outcry and the Governor intervention to save his life.

If truly he committed the crime, he must have learned his lesson and here opportunity to turn a new chapter

But if they lied against him, well thank God he didn’t go with the storm, do who do that will sure face the consequences sooner or later.

In all, let live a modest lifestyle and we the parents should be intentional about training our children and guide them right, we pray God guide each and everyone of us right and may we not be a victim.
I quoted a paragraph you typed, you were so correct:

“But in all honesty we don’t really what played out because we were not there and there is no meaningful report on quality investigations for us to know what really played for us to have fair judgment”

in america in the past, they even hang a 12 year old black boy

wirinet:
Exactly. When Kemi Badenoch was narrating her experience with the Nigerian police and vowed to avoid any institution with the name Nigeria attached to it, those in denial started attacking her.
How can a judge sentence a minor to death for stealing chicken and eggs? The police accused him of being the leader of an armed robbery group without any evidence. Where are other members of the group?

Well, what of Morakinyo? Any reprieve for him yet?

And I'd really like to hear the Uncle's side of the story. Why would he testify against Segun if he did not steal the fowl? Or did Segun's dad offend him? Or the boy don't use to prostrate and greet him? Strange.
Possibly he was threatened. Besides I wonder if the said Uncle is a policeman too.

Thank you. The kids mentioned his name, his own uncle testified against him in the court. To me, he wasn't innocent of the crime but just that may be he didn't deserve death sentence as a minor
The same uncle that initially claimed that he did not see him among the thieves? Besides is the uncle the said policeman

All the police officers involved and the judge have to be arrested, investigated, tried, and punished if found guilty. Morakinyo and Olowookere have to sue for damages and be compensated.
