US Warplane Shot Down In Red Sea 'friendly Fire' Incident by God1000(op): 9:22am On Dec 23, 2024

An American fighter jet has been shot down over the Red Sea in an apparent "friendly fire" incident, the US military has said.

Both crew from the US Navy F/A-18 Hornet ejected safely, with one suffering minor injuries, according to Central Command.

The incident came after the US carried out a series of air strikes against a missile storage site and command facilities in the Yemeni capital Sanaa operated by Iran-backed Houthi militants.

US Central Command added it also hit multiple Houthi drones and an anti-ship cruise missile over the Red Sea.

In a statement, US Central Command confirmed a "friendly fire" incident over the Red Sea.

"The guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg, which is part of the USS Harry S Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on and hit the F/A-18, which was flying off the USS Harry S Truman," the statement said.

It is not clear whether the downed aircraft had been involved in the Yemen operation.
Earlier Central Command said the strikes against targets in Sanaa aimed to "disrupt and degrade Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and Gulf of Aden"

The US military also said it struck "multiple Houthi one-way attack uncrewed aerial vehicles, or drones, and an anti-ship cruise missile over the Red Sea" using "US Air Force and US Navy assets, including F/A-18s".

The Houthis, an Iran-backed rebel group that controls north-western Yemen, began attacking Israeli and international shipping shortly after the start of the Gaza war in October 2023, saying they were acting in solidarity with Palestinians.

Since November 2023, Houthi missile attacks have sunk two vessels in the Red Sea and damaged others. They have claimed, often falsely, that they are targeting ships only linked to Israel, the US or the UK.

Last December, the US, UK and 12 other nations launched Operation Prosperity Guardian to protect Red Sea shipping lanes against the attacks.

Hmm, how can a navy ship mistakingly fire at one of its own fighter jet

Was it really a friendly fire or there's something they are not telling us, I'm glad the two pilots survived

It was really a case of friendly fire. Don't just swallow the Houthi's lies that they took down the US fighter jet.

Now, before you lot start going on and saying load of rubbish, just remember Russia's made these kind of mistake, even worse. Iran too, like that time they shot down that Ukrainian plane full of innocent civilians.

The Houthis in Yemen did it.
They claimed responsibility... US is simply doing damage control

So, you are saying the Houthis did it just 'cos they claimed responsibility, but you are not buyin' it when the US say it was a friendly fire? Are you having a laugh?😂

Can you provide evidence of any physical debris or wreckage from the incident that would support the Houthis' claim?

I have independent mind and I don't just believe everything, unlike you.

If you look at the timing of the incident, it looks like someone is trying to whitewash something, but whatever it is, more information will be out soon

You claim to have independent mind yet bank on inconsistency.

By the way, how does the timing of the incident necessarily imply a "whitewash" or cover-up?
And what specific timing anomaly are you referring to? Be precise.

Instead of spouting off, can you provide any counter-evidence or alternative explanations that might challenge your current perspective on the incident?

Would you also be kind to explain how you would revise or update your opinion if new evidence emerged that contradicted your current perspective?🤷🏼

Don’t let anyone fool you, US tech is built in a way that they can’t fire themselves.
Houthis downed the fighter jets and already claimed the attack. US lie to save face

This shows your ignorance and your hatred. Go read type of automatic weapons systems on these carriers so that you will learn something.

How the mods pushing every crap you post to Frontpage is astonishing. This platform is obviously a useless platform for someone like you to have nonsense post pushed to Frontpage.

there are so sophisticated and equiped but could not properly communicate with each other, even when they were within range??
Bo go and read the process, time and sequence it takes to lunch a warhead... Mistakes are not an option in the military... The mess and damage control it takes to clean up this type of stuff is Is always immense and so is minimized..

If Houthis can fire ballistic missiles into israel, then what makes you think they cannot do this, f-18 is not even a stealth fighter, the incident happened immediately after the bombing of Yemeni capital Sanna which adds to my theory

There are cases when the weapons responds to regular airlines flying above thousands of kilometers above clouds. It had to be continuously recalibrated to identify different different flying objects and their transponders. Don't forget these weapons system also shoots down cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and now moving into the hypersonic domain.
The reason why I hate foolish people that post nonsense is that there are not in the field and will just post for sentimental value.

When our air force mistakenly strikes villages they tag them unprofessional but they don't know the mathematics of flying blind and depending on coordinates which in turn depends on multiple metrics to be precise.

We haven't mastered precision guided ammunition dynamics yet in Nigeria, while those like the world powers will always have a couple of setbacks. A plane shot down by it's own highly advanced weapon is not news. This is like one event out of 300+ missions

Just as the US has lost more aircrafts in "supposed " training than countries at war lose?

There's no super natural equipment/weapons anywhere. You might not be able to kill elephant with a gun but another person might kill it with a catapult. The same houthis continues to hit target in tel viv and in the red sea.

Is it impossible?
Houthis have been hitting vessels, aircrafts and targets before now with the US and Isreal acknowledging them.
So this one off incident is very most likely true.
Irrespective of who is right,my issue is that you will never see anything bad about the Houthis unprovoked wickedness for more than one year now, when they pay them back in their own coin and it starts raining fire and brimstone in Yemen ,you will start screaming "killers of women and children" like the Houthis actually care about their women and children.

Shush and answer the questions I asked! 😂
How does the Houthis' ability to launch ballistic missiles into Israel translate to their ability to engage and down a fast-moving, maneuverable fighter jet like the F-18?
Are you even aware that ballistic missile systems and air defense systems are two distinct types of military capabilities, requiring different technologies, and tactics?

Yes, the F-18 is not a stealth fighter, it is still highly advanced, so how then does the Houthis' alleged air defense capability compare to the F-18's capabilities?

For sure, the incident did occur after the bombing of the Yemeni capital Sana'a, how does this imply that the Houthis were responsible for downing the F-18?
Any specific evidence ? 🤷🏼
