SA Electricity Minister Named Man Of The Year For "Job Well Done" - PICTURES by RandDigital(op):
The Minister of Electricity and Energy, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is 2024’s SA Person of the Year for especially keeping the country load shedding-free (powercut-free) this year.

The Daily Maverick reported on 22 December 2024 that the Minister was given this title by its readers.

They voted for him for emphasising on accountability, transparency and keeping load shedding at bay for most of the year.

Daily Maverick defines a Person of the Year winner as “an individual or group that has made the most significant and widespread positive contributions to the nation or the world as a whole.”

According to the publication, Ramokgopa’s level of transparency and accountability made him stand out from the rest. He made South Africans part of the journey by holding regular media briefings and public forums.

One of the main factors that contributed to Ramokgopa winning the title is being able to keep the country’s lights on for the longest time. This was after SA was hit hard by rolling blackouts that had a ripple effect on many sectors.

Since his appointment in June 2024, Ramokgopa has worked hard to fix the numerous issues that were plaguing Eskom. He has been lauded for hugely contributing to giving SA some form of stability and change.

Eskom announced this week that load shedding has been suspended for a total of 268 days. That means South Africa has gone more than half a year without rolling blackouts. The power utility said this has resulted in “R16.06 billion year-on-year diesel savings.”

guy, u re funny. From the onset, I knew ur motive was to mock "black" Nigerians.

Back to the topic. Kudos to south Africa. This SA power minister threw up a party upon his appointment. Merely watching the party, I thought he would fail because I was imagining that he is celebrating as one who won a jackpot or a ticket to loot SA treasury. But now, I am thrilled by his performance. Kudos

Many African politicians' behavior really makes me pessimistic about their possible outcome. It is good to have high performers up there

you know Nigeria's problem is complicated. We hardly produced just one president wiho had a first degree. The others since 1960 had no degree and the current one allegedly forged his US education or impersonated because the high school he claimed to have attended back here in Nigeria didn't exist the year he claimed to have graduated. How can this kind of country make a reasonable progress? Ministers are mostly misfits appointed by illiterate presidents. And the educated folks amongst the 200million citizens are not bothered because they are preoccupied hating the other tribes. Internal hate blindfolds and holds down the entire nation

If you live in Nigeria, you will be making the biggest mistake of your life thinking every country is like Nigeria that isn't making progress in any sector, many countries in Africa and the world at large are making giant strides in development, while Nigeria is moving backwards with every successive administration embarassed. Kudos to the South African power minister and to their people for this success story.
