Let’s wait and see. Imo people could have a change of heart then, due to the level of job creation it could potentially bring and affordable livestock protein.

Expect more automated or semi automated abattoirs there, more suya and asun spots 😝😝, more hide and skin factories for leather products. It can spur a lot of developments.

Ranches are not what you see Fulani herdsmen practicing. If you see real ranches that Nigeria had before they collapse or you see oyibo ranches, you won’t even want to slaughter those livestocks.

So let’s wait and see if Uzodinma would be able to convince Imo State people to accept ranching this time.
IMO PEOPLE WONT ACCEPT ANYTHING FROM UZODIINMA, HE NEVER HAD THEIR MANDATE.

GENERALLY, WE DONT NEED RANCHES, THIS IS A FULANI PROBLEM WE WONT TOLERATE IN IGBOLAND.

THE MOOD IS NOT VERY WELCOMING RIGHT NOW.

Bros you obviously don't know what comparative advantage means

Sha grow your cows in Niger... Niger state is twice South East... They can give up land as big as IMO and not feel it
Now I don't know what a comparative advantage means! Why are you always predictable? Once you start to lose and argument you start saying nonsense.
What comparative advantage does a desert country have to produce and export food?
Perhaps the advantage is that they use their brains to become master of their environment while others complain.

This is a deliberate attempt. Lagos State consumes more animal protein than Osun, Kwara etc, because of the population of Lagos State.

In order to reduce cost of production and making more ranch owners invest heavily in it, that’s why 2 ranches are cited there.

Moving animal and dairy products all the way from Kwara or Ondo to Lagos State would defeat the purpose of growing livestock farming.
Imported livestock of various species too would not travel far after being offloaded from ships which would make production costs lower.
Tinubu and his team feel those open grace ranches in outer South-Western states are enough for people of those states.

The number of beef and dairy products being consumed in Lagos alone is humongous and that’s why much of the supplies come from far Northern Nigeria. Before it gets down to Lagos, it becomes costlier.

Seeing these new ranches grow and develop would ‘ginger’ our state governors into either partnering or setting up their own because there is huge money in that industry. Meat packaging and refrigeration is there. What of veterinary and hay supplies, logistics etc?

Ranching is done on a vast area of land that runs into kilometers but not on a few plots of land.

Most of those governors were either toddlers or kids when Nigerian ranching system started collapsing in the early 70s to early 80s.

Our land is small, like Israel is one of the largest countries on earth.
Israel have limit to what they can grow based on climate and limited by land size

Example makes no sense for isreal to allocate massive land ro wheat or corn which they can easily import .or Sugar cane?

Israel has a Mediterranean climate suitable for things like date, apple, grapes citrus, tomatoes , olives, and hazz avocado etc

A plot of land in IMO can buy you hectares in Niger.. A cow need one hectares to graze comfortably

Why on earth would any sane person dicide to raise cow in IMO instead of Niger then export to IMO

And they do all of these on lands irrigated by desalinated water from the sea. They could have thrown their hands up, blame nature, complain of no rain or rivers and starve.

Why come to IMO when you have Niger state? It's stupidity

If you have no option then by all means do it

But it looks suspicious when someone leaves the far easier option to take the harder option

Makes no economic sense unless they are hiding something

The new Ministry of Livestock Development will this year establish ranches in seven states across the Federation.

Checks by Nigerian Tribune revealed that two of the ranches will be in South west states of Lagos and Ogun while another two will be located in Imo and Cross River states in the south east and south south zones, respectively.

Two North East states of Adamawa and Taraba will equally have ranches along with the North West state of Kebbi.

The 2025 Budget sighted by Nigerian Tribune revealed that a total sum of N315m has been allocated to establish the ranches.

Aside from the allocation for ranches, the new Ministry with a total budget sum of N 11.8 Billion also made provision for poultry domestication farms in Delta, Abia and Bauchi states with a total sum of N150 million.

The Ministry budget has an overhead component of N1,800,000,000 and capital component of N10 billion.

A total sum of N600m has been allocated for provision of “Solar Powered in Livestock Production Communities in 30 Federal Constituencies of Nigeria.

Curiously, it also has N50 Million as provision of solar powered street lights for grazing reserve.

Further checks revealed that to address the mutual hostility between farmers and herders, the sum of N86 million has been allocated.

According to the budget, N85million will be spent on Stakeholders engagement with Governors, traditional rulers, leaders of thought on farmers – herders conflict at federal and state levels.

A total sum of N101m has been allocated for “establishments of Farmers and Herders Conflict Resolution Mechanism in Community, Ward, LGA, and State Levels.

The New Ministry also made provision for N97million as total expenditure to ” Establish a performance management system platform to Track Staff Performance.”

Nigerian Tribune checks revealed that the Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration had last July approved the creation of a new Ministry of Livestock Development at the inauguration of
the Renewed Hope livestock reform implementation committee at the State House, Abuja.

The committee was mandated to provide sector-focused solutions to address the age-long farmers-herders crisis.

Recall that on September 14, 2023, the National Livestock Reforms Committee had recommended that Tinubu create a “Ministry of Livestock Resources” to, among other deliverables, reduce the decades-long gory conflict between farmers and nomadic cattle herders nationwide.

Ok so long the ranches will be wholly given to the indigenous people of the states rather than Fulani.
Otherwise, capital NO.
The matter of grazing reserves need to go to the national assembly and/or court.

Good that you setting up only poultry farms in ND, Delta State to be precise . we don't want any cattle in whatever disguise it maybe called, be it ranching, reserves, or ruga. Why has the Ministry of Agriculture not thought it out all this years to Set up poultry fsrms in these areas ? Why must cows be involved & a new Ministry mustt be Set up before such can happen ? I hope this is not a kind of fluke to deceive these states about "poultry farms"

I hope reasonable Nigerians are not thinking what I am thinking.
Northerners are not the only one that are into cattle business and ranching will help to contain indiscriminate movement of livestock whether own by the indigenous people or not.

President Tinubu has promised to make a business out of cattle rearing and he is doing just that

Already in Brazil he got an investment commitment of $2.5bn and two weeks ago the investors were in Ogun State

I believe Oyo State also should partner with the Brazilians as it has enough arable land for ranching

Ekiti has one of the best ranches I’ve seen in this country run by Promasidor at Ikun Diary Farm

Oyo State also has a ranch run by Friesland (the pictures are below)

These are ranches that should be expanded on
Bump.

A ranch can never be a problem in any state. It is just like a poultry or piggery . No moving of cattle around. Workers will go around to cut fodder for the cattle and etc. People need to invest in ranching so as to drive out people driving cattle about. If we have ten thousand ranches all over the country, the nomadic rearers will have stiff competition

This is desperation at his peak to Grab lands of indigenes in the name of ranching. Set those ranches in the North only. They have the land mass. Why is that a problem. Jihadists using Apc states to soe seeds of confusion in the future where this " Ranches" are Established.

Why the hell create a Ministry of Livestock when you have the Ministry of Agriculture. Tommorrow they will tell you that they needd sharia laws & sharia courts when they migrate to these areas like it is happening in Oyo state.

Curiously why Set " aside" 50 million for solar power for grazing reserves when you are talking about "ranching"

From which sqauare of grazing area reserves you intent to provide this solar energy ?

I hope reasonable Nigerians are not thinking what I am thinking.
Poor you, you don't know the meaning of ranching that's why you concluded it's all about land grabbing.

Do you know why we don't have large Hectares farm land in South East particular IMO state?

I doubt there is a place in IMO you can find 5000 hectares of land empty... Absolutely none

Someone has been looking for 250 hectares to build a university yet hasn't seen

Every state must not have ranch, build it in the North, sale the meat down South
