The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

Azuka was reportedly kidnapped on Tuesday night along Ugwunapampa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, a bustling commercial area in the state.

Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and assured the public that efforts are underway to secure Azuka’s release and apprehend the culprits.

Ikenga stated:

"The Anambra Police Command has activated operational plans for the possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers of Mr. Justice Azuka, Honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North Constituency.

The report of the incident indicates that on December 24, 2024, at about 9:20 pm, while returning home along Ugwunapampa Road, he was abducted by unidentified persons.

The Command is working on leads to ensure his rescue and the arrest of those responsible. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses."

Justice Azuka, a Labour Party member, recently regained his seat in the House of Assembly after a court nullified the election victory of Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 polls.

The abduction has sparked widespread concern among constituents and political stakeholders, as authorities intensify their search for the lawmaker and his abductors.

Could this endless kidnapping be the reason we still practically don't have breathing space in Lagos as nobody wants to travel? I understand even Peter Obi is celebrating Christmas in Lagos.

But I thought ipob promised to suspend kidnapping and Monday sit at home during festivities so igbos can enjoy the season.

Soludo is poor in handling insecurity in Anambra. We all witnessed the destruction and burning down of houses and other properties of innocent people in the name of fighting insecurity with no tangible results.

Checking points (extortion points) are littered everywhere in the state but insecurity is in astronomical rise. Soludo should trace the root cause of the problem and tactically tackle it. Look how Abia state handled the problem and insecurity has drastically reduced in the state. Spare noone, hit them hard else the story will remain the same.
