Air Peace Chairman Accepts NCAA Sanctions, Pledges Compliance with Aviation Regulations

Lagos, Nigeria — The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has accepted sanctions imposed on his airline by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) following violations of consumer protection regulations. Onyema acknowledged the infractions by his staff and pledged to ensure compliance moving forward.

The NCAA announced enforcement actions against five airlines, including Air Peace, for breaching provisions of Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023. The development was disclosed by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, in a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

"Earlier today, I notified five airlines that the NCAA has initiated enforcement actions against the operators for violation of various consumer protection regulations," Achimugu wrote.

Onyema Responds to Violations

On Friday, Acting Director-General of the NCAA, Chris Najomo, provided an update on the issue, revealing that Onyema publicly acknowledged the enforcement actions.

“The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, stated that he has witnessed some of the infractions by his staff and has cautioned them to ensure compliance with the Authority’s regulations, particularly regarding refunds within the stipulated timeframe," Najomo posted on X.

Onyema emphasized his support for the NCAA’s actions, admitting, “I will always acknowledge it where the fault is ours. This shows that the NCAA knows what they are doing.”

NCAA Takes Stronger Stance

Najomo underscored the significance of the enforcement, noting that this marks the first time in over a decade that the NCAA’s Consumer Protection Department has sanctioned airlines for such violations.

“It will no longer be business as usual as we continue to protect both airlines and passengers as impartial umpires,” Najomo said.

He commended Onyema for his cooperation and assured the public of continued efforts to safeguard passenger rights.

Broader Compliance Efforts

In related news, Ethiopian Airlines also confirmed its readiness to comply with NCAA regulations following a similar enforcement notification. The airline pledged to submit a compliance report promptly.

The NCAA’s actions come amid growing calls for stricter oversight in Nigeria’s aviation sector, reinforcing its commitment to ensuring accountability and protecting consumer rights.

A commendable action from the NCAA. One of the major challenges of Nigerians is that the agencies that are supposed to be protecting the interests of the masses are out to exploit and victimize them for selfish gains. You begin to wonder if the Standard Organization Of Nigeria and the Consumer Protection Agency still operates. Toothless Bykk

Airpeace should be called Air Unsettled or anything asides from the suffix ‘Peace’

It’s a shame that the Nigerian behaviour has crept into an airline with total disdain for keeping to schedule.

I would never fly with air peace again.

Thumbs up to Ibom Air, those guys are competent, they keep to schedule.

The amazing thing is that fgn that cannot run a national airline is now the one that is regulating privately owned functional airlines. A failure regulating a success, no be juju be dat?
Now concerning oyema, what is the problem of air peace in particular? You cannot book a flight with them and meet your appointment, impossible! The tell you 8.15 am flight, that flight will leave by 12. Several times I have had to beg hotels for extra time to checkout as one will receive message from air peace for 4 hrs delay.
They have smooth flight ohh, but them swear for them with "delayed" everything, I hear refunds too.

That time when the self righteous Umpire is number one "committer" of infractions against workers & citizens! Taa! Make we mention am? Take am: bombing & killing citizens & giving excuses of 2nd explosion, budget padding, borrowing & nothing to show for it, overtaxations Abi double/triple taxations, buying plane sans due process, picking & choosing court orders to obey, not providing security & safety for citizens, declaring so much revenue & nothing to show for it, policies somersault & using citizens as guinea pigs..."abeg (physician: heal thyself!"

IP0B/0BIDIENTS will soon start wailing upandan that it is because AirPeace is owned by an Igbo man as if aviation standard should not be met just because an Igbo man runs an airline. Cutting corners and introduction of sharp practices are not allowed in aviation and that is worldwide practice. Being Igbo has absolutely nothing to do with maintaining standards.

Airpeace might need to be more deliberate with their local operations. It's high time they give it a priority. Probably ramp up communication channels and ensure maximum value for money.
