This is not the piece we asked for, we asked for what happened, why and how it happened, what was done and how to prevent it and what exactly makes ordinary culpable in that situation, this information is needed as per each stampede incident.

If this was done as regards the ibadan incident on Wednesday, perhaps the abuja and anambra organizers could have learnt a thing or two from it thereby preventing the other stampedes and their subsequent arrest

And before anyone says wrongly again that the authorities owe no one any statement, please remember these were disaster level incidents in some of the cases, responders were overwhelmed...

Let us bring to our recollection the response of the US to the Boston marathon bombing, there were statements immediately after and subsequently....

Times have changed and obviously the requirement for charity as changed too, 3 stampedes in succession is no coincidence, I ask again what happened and what makes organizers culpable so everyone actually learns from this and lives get to be saved in future

inducement money paid to some faceless people to shore up his image amounts to an exercise in futility.


2025 may make 2024 preferable, as it were.

When you tell them to mention one of his policies that's favoring them they'll call Peter Obi. The average Tinubu support cannot look beyond tribalism, even in his hunger, he still sees Peter Obi as his enemy.

The economy is something else. There's aggressive looting in literally every sector, nothing is working.

The other day I was at a supermarket to buy some stuffs, I saw a man standing deep in thought. Maybe the money he came with wasn't enough and he was just standing there thinking of what to do. So many families are struggling to feed. Food has become a luxury in Nigeria.

The only thing that still baffles me about his administration is that his tribesman are still supporting him. Most of them can no longer survive on their salaries because of inflation. Majority are living on loans and debts that's why they marched in their hundreds to his house on Christmas day to beg for crumbs.

A good government makes the economy conducive so that businesses can thrive. Not strangle the people then share crumbs of bread to the so that they can sing your praises.

The day Nigerians begin to look beyond tribe and religion, this country would be great.

Stampede happens everywhere but the causes vary. Despite the blackmailing of the Federal Government for events that happened before Christmas, I witnessed several near stampede scenarios on Christmas day. If the three events of Ibadan, Abuja and Obijackson (Anambra) had not happened the security operators at these places wouldn't have engaged Crowd Control Mechanism and it could have led to stampede with several casualties.

On Christmas day, several Shopping Malls were full and overcrowded despite the cry of economic hardship. It got to a level we were not allowed to enter about Four popular big shopping Malls belonging to different franchise. We were determined to see what is happening, from Akowonjo to Ikeja, to Ojodu to Isheri ,Olowora (Omole phase 2) and finally to IBAFO. It was at IBAFO (Justrite Supermarket) that we got frustrated and turned back. Out of frustration, I wanted to fight the Security men at Justrite Supermarket IBAFO but I remembered it was the same everywhere we had visited. The Supervisor told us that inside is overcrowded and their cashiers are overwhelmed with large crowd awaiting their turn to pay and move out. He said people on queue are becoming impatient and that any further stress can lead to Stampede. People were still standing outside the entrance waiting for inside to free. We saw people that had finished shopping coming outside and begged to be allowed inside but the security operators refused. He said they need at least 25% of people inside to finish before people could be allowed inside. At the previous Malls visited we couldn't interact with the Security Officers when we saw people that were prevented from entering standing outside.

Stampede is not necessarily because of economic situation, it is because of greediness on the part of people and poor organization of the event. Social Media help information to spread very fast and different people with dubious characters and greedy people take advantage of the information to invade the event center.

Economic hardship but Press (Punch, Vanguard,etc) failed to visit Shopping Malls and cover what is happening. During the last Ileya Festival, few days to the festival, Press carried information on high price of Rams and Cows and that of transportation but a day to the Eid UL Kabir (Ileya Festival) and few days after they failed to inform us that at various Kara Markets they had about 95% sales of Rams and Cows, the best sales till date. They forgot to inform us that despite high transportation cost, transporters had large turnouts of travellers. Apart from Social Media, the press didn't tell us this year Ojude Oba at Ijebu Ode is the best till date .
