The synergy between Rivers and Bayelsa States took center stage as Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State hosted Bayelsa’s Governor Douye Diri and his entourage at the Government House, Port Harcourt, in a heartwarming Christmas visit. Gov. Fubara, visibly delighted by the surprise visit, described the longstanding bond between the two states as unbreakable, emphasizing their shared history and identity. "There’s no difference between Rivers and Bayelsa. We are one," Fubara stated passionately, pointing out that Bayelsa was carved out of the old Rivers State, making their connection inseparable. Reflecting on the past and the present, Gov. Fubara highlighted the intertwined destinies of the two states, saying, “Our story isn’t complete without Bayelsa. The leaders who shaped Rivers State’s foundation hailed from Bayelsa. We must honor this legacy by working together for the prosperity of our region.” SYNERGY FOR REGIONAL GROWTH The discussion between the two leaders wasn’t just about nostalgia but a forward-looking vision. Fubara stressed the importance of collaboration to sustain development. "A significant number of Bayelsans reside in Rivers. When we develop Rivers, we’re also improving lives in Bayelsa. Growth in one state fuels growth across the region," he affirmed. Calling for the revitalization of the BRACE Commission, the South-South regional body comprising Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Edo, Fubara said, “Strengthening this synergy will help us combat regional challenges like crime and insecurity. Together, we can ensure peace and development across the South-South.” A MESSAGE OF PEACE AND LOVE Fubara’s speech was laced with heartfelt advice on leadership and unity. He urged leaders to prioritize love and understanding over conflict, stating, “Leadership is about ruling with love, earning respect, and leaving a legacy of peace. Our region has endured so much, but through faith and unity, we’ve overcome.” Reflecting on past challenges, including the militancy days, Fubara expressed gratitude for the region’s progress. “Bayelsa and Rivers are no longer defined by their turbulent past. We’ve surrendered our struggles to God, and His guidance has strengthened us. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger – I’m now a General!” he declared with a smile. REGIONAL SECURITY AND RESPONSIBILITY Both governors also discussed the need to protect the region’s oil wealth, a key national treasure. “As leaders of this oil-rich zone, we’re committed to safeguarding both offshore and onshore assets for the benefit of Nigeria,” Fubara assured. In his closing remarks, the Rivers governor expressed hope for the new year, saying, “May 2025 bring prosperity and stronger development for our states. This visit is a testament to the unity we share, and I look forward to more fruitful collaborations with my brother, Governor Douye Diri.” BACKGROUND The visit was a follow-up to Governor Fubara’s earlier New Year visit to Governor Diri on January 3, 2024. During that meeting, both leaders had resolved to work together for the progress of their states and the South-South region at large. Johnmartins®️ Saturday, 28 December, 2024

AwkaFinest:NO, THAT LIES HAVE TO END. BAYELSA WAS CREATED AS A SETTLEMENT FOR THE IJAWS. MAJORITY OF THE RIVERINE PEOPLE IN RIVERS STATE ARE ORIGINALLY A MIXTURE OF IGBO AND EFIK, THAT IS WHY IT IS CALLED NEW CALABAR AND LATER KALABARI. IJAW EXPANSIONSIT MUST BE CHECKED AND HALTED, ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY HAD THE GUTS TO DICTATAE TO OHANAEZE NOT TO ZONE PRESIDENT TO IKWERRE. THAT WAS WHERE WE CHANGED IT FOR THEM. THEY CROSSED THEIR BOUNDARY, AT NO TIME HAVE IGBO OR OHANAEZE INVOLVED ITSELF IN IYC BUSINESS. AT SOME POINT, YOU CALL A SPADE A SPADE. |

Stolen:So if they are a mixture of "Igbo and Efik" as you claim, then that's definitely not the only 2 admixtures. So stop deluding yourself. Last time I checked, The Abua/Odual person has more in common with an Ogbia man in Bayelsa than any Igbo or Efik. The Engenni people have more in common with the Epie people of Bayelsa than Igbo or Efik The Kalabari and Okrika man has more in common with the Nembe/Brass person than they do with Igbo and Efik. So what's your point? |

AwkaFinest:who dash monkey Banana 🍌? There is no such thing as Ijaw in rivers state. Check out the map below. It's a map of the coastal Niger Delta (Benin coast) and Cameroons done by Portuguese explorers centuries ago. You can see the ethnic make-up of the coastal Niger delta, starting with the Edo's in the far west called Warre ( warri), then the brass tribes that contains ijaws in today's bayelsa. Moving closer East in what is today the coastal Rivers state and you can see it is clearly labelled "Eboes". This Eboes include Bonny, Opobo and Okirika. You can also see andonies were not even called Igbos talk more of being Ijaw. They are a mixture of Igbos and Ibibios who were labelled as quas (qua Ibo)in the north East of the map. Ijaw are just empty land grabbers conniving with Igbo enemies to steal Igbo lands and taking advantage of vulnerable position of Igbos in the present Nigeria. Ijaw ends in certain areas in bayelsa and Delta state.

AwkaFinest:IJAWS ARE INTERLOPERS THAT SQUAT ON EVERY COAST IN WEST AFRICA, CAMEROON TO GHANA. THAT IS NOT A LAND ENTITLEMENT OR CLAIM TO FOREIGN LANDS. WE NEVER DENIED THIS FACT BUT WAT WE REJECT IS ALWAY CLAIMING PEOPLE FROM OITHER TRIBES TO BE IJAW. OK LET ME ASK YOU, HOW IS JAJA OF OPOBO AN IJAW MAN AND TD JAKES AN IGBOMAN. ONE WAS STILL ON IGBO SOIL AND THE OTHER AMERICA. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE? |
