EDITORIAL: Who killed Father Tobias ?

The brutal murder of Reverend Father Tobias Okonkwo, Manager of the College of Nursing Sciences, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala, is a sacrilege, to say the least.

It has sent shockwaves of grief and outrage across Anambra State and beyond.

This heinous crime is a clear reminder of the escalating violence and insecurity that threatens to consume our society.

Father Tobias was a selfless servant of God, dedicated to spreading love, peace, and compassion.

His senseless killing is a tragedy that has left his family, friends, and community reeling in pain and despair.

The fact that such an innocent lamb was targeted and killed by heartless criminals is a grim reminder of the perfidy occasioned by the breakdown of law and order in our society.

The killing of Father Tobias is not an isolated incident. A 75-year-old retired Anglican Archbishop is still missing after being abducted on his way to Umuchu in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

These attacks on priests and innocent citizens are a menace that must be addressed urgently.
We demand that the authorities take immediate action to apprehend and prosecute the killers of Father Tobias.

The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be brought to justice, and the full weight of the law must be applied to them. Anything less would be a travesty of justice and a betrayal of the trust that the people have placed in our law enforcement agencies.

To prevent such senseless killings in the future, we must take concrete steps to address the insecurity in the state.
This includes increasing funding for law enforcement, implementing community-based programmes to prevent violence, and promoting a culture of peace and tolerance.

The State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, should expedite the launch of Operation Udo Ga-Achi Security without further delay to address the growing insecurity in the state.

The postponement of this initiative is increasingly risky, especially considering the recent surge in crimes in the state.

We extend our deepest condolences to the immediate family of Father Tobias, the proprietor, management, staff, and students of the College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala.

We share in their grief and pain, and we pray that God will grant them the strength and comfort they need during this difficult time.

We must all rise up and demand justice for Father Tobias and all innocent victims of violence. The time to act is now. Enough is enough.
