The crash may have been with low impact but the amount of jet fuel an airplane carry is the major reason for fatalities as its extremely flammable and it'll result in immediate fire upon impact and according to the detail provides about the crash the altitude was already too late to shed off excess fuel and to some extent I doubt the credibility of the new because most variant of Boeing 737 have manual way of releasing langing gears incase of emergency

In my own layman's mind, I'm wondering that if it's just malfunction of the landing gear, shouldn't the crash occur close to when they're about to land and as such at a reduced altitude with less casualties?

Airplanes dont use any of the landing gears for steering! They use the flaps and rudder to change pitch and directions!

Going of the runway was his best option
After carefully analyzing the video, the front landing gear for steering was also never deployed, it was not possible to go off the runway

Sorry. But that's not correct.
Landing gears are a complex system and one of the function is for steering an aircraft during taxiing.
The rudders are used only during landing and take off (when the aircraft is not on the ground).
When on the ground, the tiller (a part of the landing gear system) is used for steering.
I believe it was the tiller that malfunctioned in this case that's why the plane veered off the runway.

it seems like the landing gear was stuck, because it was literally gliding on the engines and that was what caused the explosion.

As you can see from the video, for the landing gear, probably the wheel didn't come out at all or didn't come out complete. No tyre to roll and keep the plane balance on the run way, no break to hold to bring the plane to a stop. The plane continues to drag on the floor with the projection speed with which it came down until it collides with something.

An object will continue to be in its state of rest or in its continuous motion until an external force act on it.

I think there should be speed breakers made of layers of nets at airports to reduce the landing impact of malfunctioning airplanes, vertically and horizontally, since most airplanes crash during taking off or landing.

It'll be really difficult if they lost children in the crash! Jeju is a holiday place with Korean families and tourists flooding the islands every year...this is really sad

Saw the video on Twitter. The plane crashed into a wall and went up in flames. The violent nature of the explosion will make me not want to survive it. The two survivors will definitely not be the same again no matter what.

I don’t know if it’s because of the age of the airplane but how does an airplane not have like an indicator that alerts the pilot that the landing gears did malfunction,I have seen a situation where landing gear malfunctioned and the pilot communicated the tower to
Clear him for take off immediately before it could land and he went off in the air back ,,rip to the dead ,things de happen
