Who Will Succeed Governor Sanwoolu? by garyjohnson(op):
The race for 2027 has begun and political permutations have started flying all over the place.
With the All Progressives Congress (APC), these are the likely contenders for Governor Babajide Sanwoolu's position as the CEO of Nigeria's richest and most populous state.

Although main concerns of the Lagos State Indigenes (The Locals) are:

- A conservative who will protect the interest of the Indigenes

- The ègún people of Badagry which is the South Western part of Lagos have never had the opportunity to govern the state from inception and deserve a chance

- The North Eastern part of Lagos which are the Ikorodu people also demands for a shot as they’ve never produced a democratically elected Governor of the state. (Mobolaji Johnson the first military administrator of the state is from Ikorodu). They have also be loyal to APC and delivered for the President even while he lost state wide.

- Due to the nature of Lagos, the state needs a Technocrat more than a politician.

- Sustainability of existing development projects

These were the major grassroot concerns we gathered from our research.

Only Tinubu can answer the question, even BabaJide Sanwo-Olu doesn't know.

I choose Femi Gbaja.

I like his eloquence and posture. Let's test him and see..

It's looking Lagos East actually, to round off Ambode's one term..... My first pick will be Tokunbo Abiru.

Jags will decide though!

I think that's a downgrade from his current position actually. Like the OP said, the State needs more a technocrat than politician.

Op, why is Tinubu's and the Governor's Advisory Council (GAC) anointed candidate not on the picture

Wow.. I was thinking along same line. But sir, would u rather choose to be the chief of staff to the president than being the Lagos Governor?
Personally I feel Tinubu wouldn't want Gbajabiamilla to leave him now. Tinubu wants someone to come in and maybe spend just one tenure and by the end of the one tenure, he too would have being rounding up his own tenure as president, thereby freeing up Gbaja to take up the role of Governor

One of the first rule of Governance is not to pick someone who already knows too much. You pick a dummy/rookie who is still learning the ropes whilst you continue to dominate and domineer.
Gbaja might look like he doesn't know what he is doing, a 6-termer, a former Speaker who did well whilst he was in the house... When he will be Governor, Tinubu may even be too old to even control him, so those people Tinubu doesn't trust too much, will remain in Abuja with him, where his eyes can always reach them.

If you give me a Governor or Chief of Staff to the President, I will embrace the CoS to the President. The CoS is the most powerful position after the President, infact technically 'more powerful' than the Vice President.

You cannot see the President without the CoS.
The CoS is responsible for hiring and firing every domestic or office staff of the President. In the Villa, he is the 'defacto President'. Nothing goes on with the President from health to Security to finance to budget to anything without the CoS.
The CoS doesn't have a budget, like every spending comes or flows from that Office. That office is too powerful to leave then run for a Governor.

It's a personal choice though......

Muri Okunola
Though things may change, he hails from the same LGA as Sanwo-Eko. it's going Lagos East most likely....

Hazmat being used twice as Dep. Gov should forget the race

Even the President will not want to jeopardize his chances as JAGABAN by allowing his son to be the next Governor.

Obasa's misyarn lately has send him out of the race

Abike being a woman, I don't think Lagos is ready for a woman Governor.

Gbaja is still needed up there with the President.

Abiru is still a new comer, though he is rich

Ayinde is not in the picture

Muri-Okunola is all round fit. He has been understanding Sanwo-Olu to take up his job as a one term Gov., but Sanwo-Olu's achievements got him the second term.

If there is a lot of cry and plea to JAGABAN, Ambode might return.

My Opinion Though!

Tinubu will want a stronger candidate that can win Lagos, just in case Nigerian rejects him in 2027.

NO ONE EXCEPT TINUBU KNOW WHO WILL SUCCEED AMBODE.

They should consider Ambode, who was a great performer and he was still loyal to the party even when he was denied deservedly second term. He didn't listen to the bitter people, who think everything is fighting. Anyway you can't compare a sound chartered accountant.

Writing is clearly on the wall. Look at Tinubus last trip to Lekki mosque and that’ll answer your question. Gbaja who’s usually his right hand was no where to be found and clearly doesn’t enjoy the grassroot support outside Surulere.
Moronic Obasa who also has serious influence at the grassroots pretty much ruled himself out with his antics at the budget presentation. HMO has never been on the ballot and is not part of the SEC (unlike the past 3 governors).

Hazmats the man, youngest PhD holder, never been desperate for power and comes from a strong grassrooted political family. Only that it’s too early to come out right now, I think he’ll clinch it with BRF and the justice wing of APC Lagos.

Is it still available democracy when Tinubu got to decide who becomes governor in Lagos.

Can we all agree that we no longer practice democrazy in the state?
