Most singles are lonely most of the time but they may not be sad most of the time. They may be sad once in a while though. Who wants to be single if a healthy relationship is a possibility? People embrace singleness when their relationships fail, not like it is their preferred choice. So, why won't they feel lonely and sad sometimes?
