Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has announced plans to create additional Local Government Areas (LGAs) to enhance administrative efficiency and service delivery. He emphasized that some existing LGAs are too large and would benefit from being subdivided for better governance. Governor Alex Otti’s proposal to create new Local Government Areas (LGAs) in Abia State raises significant concerns for the Ngwa ethnic nationality. While intended to improve administrative efficiency, the plan could further marginalize the Ngwa people, reducing their political influence, share of state resources, and representation in governance. Currently, the Ngwa dominate Abia Central and Abia South, but the proposed new LGAs are expected to heavily favor Abia North, increasing its LGA count and political power. This shift could dilute the Ngwa’s legislative strength and weaken their bargaining power, as Abia North would have more representation in both state and federal assemblies. Additionally, the increase in LGAs for Abia North will likely result in a larger share of resources being allocated to that region, leaving Ngwa communities with even less investment in infrastructure, healthcare, and education. This redistribution risks relegating the Ngwa people to minority status, despite their significant population. Under Governor Otti’s administration, many Ngwa people feel sidelined, with development efforts seemingly focused on non-Ngwa areas. If this trend continues, it is clear that the Ngwa ethnic nationality may no longer have a strong voice in the political decisions of Abia State. Given the growing marginalization and systemic neglect, it is becoming increasingly apparent that the Ngwa people must advocate for the creation of a separate state. Establishing a Ngwa state would grant greater autonomy, enhance political representation, and ensure that resources are allocated equitably. This would not only preserve Ngwa cultural identity but also provide a more effective platform for addressing the needs and aspirations of its people. As Abia State undergoes changes in governance and administrative structure, the need for a separate Ngwa state is becoming more pressing. To secure their future and ensure equitable representation, the Ngwa ethnic nationality must seriously consider this path toward self-determination. |

OnoVegasBlog:Ngwa people always see things from the lens of tribe never think for the good of the state in general.State resources are been used to develop Ngwa land and every important project is been sited in Ngwa land people of Abia North never complained because they see the state as one., If the airport was to be built in Abia North they will cry marginalization.Alex Otti is from Isi Alangwa yet they are crying just after 1 year Ikpeazu left office as governor.Well after Alex Otti power must return to Abia North after 24 years we have been seriously marginalized politically economically and infrastructure wise.. |

Ojiofor:Due to irreconcilable differences, I guess the best alternative is the splitting of Abia State.. Just as the Orlu people are advocating for same in Imo, Abia north should lend their voice. Abia seems like an almost failed project. Self determination is the only way out. This will enable Abia north and their friends to develop their zone and communities while Ngwa do same. This gonna reduce the blame game. |

OnoVegasBlog:A state for Orlu zone and the Orlu people merged to Anambra south should have been created when Ebonyi State was created. But Abacha hijacked it for a 7th state in the northwest area. Owerri people knew right from tete that the state would be created; that's why Owerri refused to concede even one federal and state government institutions to Orlu. |
