But he anointed Lawan, the Chairman of APC announced that Lawan was Buhari's choice and Buhari never denied it.

Buhari never anointed anybody and we all know it. ANYBODY he told the party to pick would have been the nominee
The logical thing would have been for him to annoint his VP but LUCKILY for Tinubu he didn't.
Smart politicians don't depend on such

Former presidential Special Adviser on Political Matters, Babafemi Ojudu, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu outsmarted his predecessor, ex-President Muhammadu Buhari in 2022.

Ojudu said Buhari never supported his then Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo and Tinubu during the All Progressives Congress, APC, presidential primary election.

He pointed out that Tinubu outsmarted Buhari in so many ways to pick the party’s ticket and eventually emerge president.

Ojudu disclosed this while featuring on Edmund Obilo’s podcast ‘State Affairs’ on Monday evening.

According to Ojudu: “I knew Osinbajo was going to lose the primary, I saw it coming.
“Because of the system we operated and still operating, I kept saying at our meeting that all of the efforts we are making like traveling around, convincing people, and addressing delegates is only 40 percent.

“60 percent of it lies in Buhari’s hands unless and until Buhari mobilizes people around him, the governors, his aides, we are going nowhere.
“I used to refer to Buhari as a one-man majority and he never mobilized his team towards Osinbajo and I think Tinubu outsmarted him in so many different ways.”

In the build-up to the 2023 presidential elections, there were widespread claims that Buhari preferred the then Senate President, Ahmad Lawan over Osinbajo and Tinubu.

But results from the primary showed that Tinubu pulled 1, 271 votes, former Transportation Minister, Rotimi Amaechi pulled 316 votes to come second, Osinbajo had 235 votes, while Lawan got 152 votes

Tinubu said he asked Buhari to give him the go ahead to chose whoever he wants as his vice.
Both Tinubu and Buhari has repeatedly cleared the air about the relationship between them but there's a group of people who keep pushing the narratives about how Buhari betrayed Tinubu, this talks made Buhari display his ballot paper after casting his votes, Tinubu took his certificate of return down to Daura to greet Buhari, they have maintained good relationship since then, yet these noise makers will never rest.

One thing I know for sure, Buhari was not interested in who's going to takeover from him.
He wanted a fair contest and that was what happened.
He never endorse anyone before the primary election and that was it.
I can't assure you and anyone that care to know that,Buhari could have messed with Tinubu's chance to become the president, if he wanted to.
He understands the power play at the time and he want to be fair to all,though he has an absolute power 🔋 💪 to flex but he chooses restraint.
Infact,he control the party and he has the most loyal political base even, till date.
