I have had an issue like this and it was resolved with wisdom. I love how my pastor handled the situation.
Note: my own case is not issue of tithe, but of certain partnership we wanted to do in church.

I pledged ₦10,000 and I made a transfer of ₦100,000. When I realized,I call the church staff that I made a transfer of ₦100,000. She told me to give her some time.
After like an hour, she told me to send payment confirmation of the money I send, which I did. She reported to the pastor.

The pastor asked for my account number, and he transferred my ₦100,000 back to my account.

Then I transferred my ₦10,000 to the church account. This time, I didn't make any mistake.

This happened on 2020.

I was happy. This is called wisdom which the pastor applied

Church, should be a place of high level of organized environment with truthfulness and discipline, because God himself is a highly well organized being, so I don't expect minor financial issues to come up in such environment.

Any pastor that use cunning way like overpayment or wrong account credit and refuse to refund the excess money is a criminal and scammer. It is high time such member will report such pastor to police for prosecution - obtaining money under false pretense

Except it is a small place, the pastor shouldn't be involved in any of this because he is not the accountant. He is not an admin personnel. A Pastor is not the CEO but because we have abused all of these, there are no controls anymore. Pastors are now everything in 1. Who then checks the pastor?

I made the same mistake. I did not call the Pastor, I called the Church Accountant, he was so professional, I had to sow the money as a seed in the ministry.
