New Refineries: NNPCL May Cut Crude Supply To Dangote Plant by Kuginzi(op): 5:52am On Jan 02, 2025
The Federal Government may cut its crude oil supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery, reducing it from the current allocation of 300,000 barrels per day, except if there is a surge in Nigeria’s oil output, The PUNCH gathered on Wednesday.

This reduction is expected to take place as part of adjustments under the government’s naira-for-crude initiative following the coming onstream of the Warri and Port Harcourt refineries.

Both refineries currently operate at a combined capacity of about 135,000 barrels per day. The plants, managed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, commenced operations recently after years of neglect by successive governments, preferring fuel imports.

It was gathered that the planned reduction of crude to the Dangote refinery was also predicated on the necessity to ensure a sufficient supply of crude to all refineries.

This is aimed at boosting competition in the downstream sector, with the government facilitating this through the naira-for-crude initiative. Before the initiative, the government used to allocate about 445,000 barrels per day of crude to domestic refineries operated by NNPCL.

The main reason for resurrecting the dead refineries.

By law the must supply local refineries first before exporting. The game is deeper than you can think of.

There are players there already. You just have an unnecessary hate and you're a lady. I pity for your in-laws.

Re: New Refineries: NNPCL May Cut Crude Supply To Dangote Plant by Wallade(m): 7:52am On Jan 02, 2025
It is not good for competition. Why should they cut down Dangote refinery's crude oil supply?

NNPCL is trying to be monopolistic. They are trying to force Dangote Refinery to source crude oil abroad which will ultimately translate to increasing demand for FOREX and higher cost of petroleum products from Dangote Refinery.

I think Federal Government through the Ministry of Finance, the arm that administers the sale of crude oil in Nigeria, should ensure that Dangote refinery is not starved of crude oil for production of petroleum products for local consumption.

Yes

No chance for monopoly in this economy

The more you look, the less you see. For a country with average of 1.5m barrel per day crude production and still struggling to feed 650,000 bpd refinery and others that their total feed requirement not up to 400k bpd...
and yet they are still mortgaging future crude production in the cannibalistic crude for loan deals

The aspects you don't know are far far far, more than the one you know. It would take a whole year of explanations for you to get to latest happenings in Nigeria governance, provided you ready to learn.

* Many of those crude oil you mentioned are already, sold out as a debt during Buhari, and it's a must for Tinubu to obey agreement.

*If Govt sells everything in Naira, where would Nigeria gets enough dollars to fund his projects that need dollars to fund.
If you read my comment well, you will know that i already raised your first point, the fault is only not on Buhari, Tinubu's admin also secure crude for loan deals at inception

Your second point also lacks credibility,
1) Nigeria alone cannot consume 1.5m barrel of oil daily, heck we can't even consume half of that amount, so lets say we sell all our crude to local refineries, we will have enough refined products to start exporting to other countries in the region (Lets ignore the sarcastic statement by NNPC that they are exporting to UAE). This will bring in forex and also help to stabilise Naira
2) Our current local refineries when fully working can not process 1m barrel per day so still leaving us surplus to export crude not to talk of now that only Dangote's is optimally working(infact not full capacity according to statement from their officials), our current required crude feedstock should not exceed 800k barrel per day(adding porthacourt and modular refineries) so we still have a surplus of 700k barrel (using my initial peg of 1.5m barrel per day)

No sir, the law only indicates that minimum of 445, 000 barrels of crude oil daily should be allocated to local refineries in Nigeria to provide petroleum products for local consumption.

Nigeria is a weird country. A country that supposedly produces 1.5mb of crude oil daily is looking to cut crude supply to its biggest refinery, an indigenous refinery for that matter... just because they want to feed two small government owned refineries.

Make it make sense.

Dangote already knew he can't rely on you for crude, that's why he built a refinery that can crack all grades of crude.
This is a cheap move against competition from a group as big as NNPC.
He will still beat you clowns production cost wise even after importing crude cos his technology are newer and has bigger production capacity in a single train, other than you that have yours scattered in bits all over the country.
Next thing is you people will start selling crude at a discount to your subsidiaries, but it still won't work.
Lazy Nigerian approach to competition, tuckers!

Since he complained about Malta refineries, they started the resurrection of other local refineries. That's where the politics took place...to strip him of the benefits of monopoly...plus, it won't still stop the importation.

After all, they have to keep lynching the country, don't they?

Good let him go and buy crude abroad in dollars.
Oil and gas business is bigger than the cement and sugar industry.

How much is a bag of cement that we produce here in Nigeria? Dangote should tell us why a bag of cement should be more than 5k.

Dangote should also tell Nigerians why he is selling PMS above 5 hundred naira, after getting crude freely in Naira?

Nonsense!
Let there be competition!

when you read, think ..... Suddenly Nigeria refineries that have refuse to work for decades are coming back, .... naive Nigerians will say it is Tinubu or a miracle But it all because of Dangote.

Dangote refinery is design to feed on Nigeria crude, Nnpc knowing that fact are playing on how to sideline Dangote using valid excuses, our four refineries

If our four refineries are working, it will shorten ration to dangote, then Nnpc can move to sideline Dangote ... all of people will say and so what undecided who cares

We need Dangote in the Mix, dangote is the only force that can keep Nnpc on there toes and on track

I thought of this too but I hope it’s not what (we) am thinking tho…

I want to be positive about this that it’s base on a healthy competition between the refineries but you kno, considering the deep state of corruption in Nigeria, one cannot be blamed for thinking anything bcuz anything is possible within the thinker 😁

Dangote will be importing his crude oil..... And still w be making serious profit . As a matter of fact, Dangote major targets for his finished products are neighboring African countries..
Can NNPCL meet up with our daily demands of PMS? The answer is blowing in the wind.
