babajero:how does the highlighted below mean all you just said? babajero:what does it mean to "incite or assist others in begging by any means"? you decided to lift some part of the information on the website when the website provided a comprehensive definition of begging which is different from your attempt to try to distort what the website said babajero:who are those hanging around tinubus house?

Well, The op just wrote a long epistle complaining and condemning without making any meaningful suggestions on what to do or the way forward! Besides, I doubt if you grew up in Ibadan as you claim. If you do, you would know that you need not hold a political position for people to come around your house especially during festive season or Ramadan for handouts, let alone a philanthropist who has been doing these for years! Come up with solutions and we'll know you actually know what you are doing and not just writing for writing sake. Nevertheless, have a wonderful new year. Peace! |

babajero:So area boys and political party supporters are now Muslims. You could have as well called those motorcyclists Christians to satisfy your bias. People going to Tinunbu's houses during Christmas, a Christian holiday, are Muslims. Yet, those same people never show up at his doorstep during Islamic festivals. I hope this isn't the same brain you use to cross the road? If it is, I am sorry for you. Even your bias is laughing at you from a mile away. Move on at this point. You are starting to sound ridiculous. |

I don't think people reflected when the President admitted in the Media chat that he had been doing this since 1999 i.e. 25 years That's a disgrace IMO He became Governor in 1999 and has continued to do this. People don't understand the import of that. Charity is good but if you are a governor and things remain the same, then as President, you still like it that way with all the power, you are not fit to be called a leader You're a ruler. |

It seems emilokan tinubu is hell-bent on failing. Security - zero. Verdict: Failed Economy - zero. Verdict: Failed Management of beggars - zero. Verdict: Failed. From the above, it can readily be deduced that tinubu loves making people to suffer. And because he has failed in all ramifications, may our prosperity not find a place with him, as he will fail in managing it. Amen!!! |

shoodboi2:I picked something here, you are very inconsistent. I am not against your submission but you failed to recognize that during Muslim festival people are also around. The difference this time around is that Tinubu has been around for many days consistently. People have been in that place for years whenever Tinubu is around. Few days ago I posted on Nairaland that I stopped reading Punch long time ago because of poor journalism of Abimbola Adelakun. The trend of people gathering at Tinubu's house was shifted from ABIOLA House at Ikeja after ABIOLA's death to Tinubu House. The gathering you are witnessing today at Bourdillon Street at Tinubu's house was initially at ABIOLA'S House. Reuben Abati can testify, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Charly Boy and others can testify. The crowds used to gather at ABIOLA'S House for help, for greetings but after his death, it shifted to Tinubu House. That lady doesn't know anything. It seems nairaland moderators are looking for such news. |

shoodboi2:Oga, religion also plays a role. Beggers have a role in Islam. There must be poor people to receive alms from the rich folks, it is their part to play. |

lexy2014:it is not against begging because Saudi Arabia stipulated the kind of begging they are against they didn't say they are stopping begging in its entirety. Now my own question is, are Muslims going against Islam and Quran? |

shoodboi2:Ms. Abimbola Adelakun is an Ibadan-born U.S.-based female columnist with Punch newspaper. She was still based in the United States when I actively stopped reading her column. I used to read her column online but I noticed she sometimes liked to engage in the use of patronizing innuendos and sophistry, so, I stopped reading her column. I can always suss anyone who tries to push out over exaggerated and misleading stories out just to get more readership or patronize a particular group of people. However, some of her (Abimbola's) points are valid here and it's NOT nice that people come queueing up in front of his palatial Bourdilon, Ikoyi residence to collect gifts. He can organize a Foundation in a separate location for such events and NOT have several people queuing up outside his residence. This is EXACTLY what happens for decades and centuries now in Northern Nigerian states where rich or multimillionaire Muslim men openly give out money, food and drinks to low income Northerners who queue up outside the houses or rich men as part of Zakat which is an obligation for Muslim folks based on what I know of Islam although I'm not one. |

Konquest:Thank you for your insight. I didn’t even know the crowd used to go to Abiola’s house. Plus I never heard that they go during Muslim festivals. I, like most people, assumed they only went to Tinubu’s house at the end of the year. Actually, this news about people lining up outside Tinubu’s house for handouts at the end of the year, has been making headlines over the past 4/5 years. And no one ever attributed it to religion. It’s even more of an ethnic thing than anything. Blord, one rich dude who is under 30 years old, did something similar for his people in his town. And many Igbo millionaires do something similar in their villages too. And I know that many politicians and rich folks in the North and here in the South West do the same too. Such is quite common around Nigeria and has nothing to do with religion and it’s quite normal that people go to the houses of rich folks for money and food at the end of the year. My grouse with the article has to do with the writer trying to frame it as a Muslim thing. It clearly has nothing to do with Islam, yet the dumbo writer attributed it to Islam and their the anti-Muslim squad here on nairaland is suddenly going on with it. I actually researched the so-called Abimbola Adelakun’s post on Punch (after reading your post) and she appears to have an anti-Muslim sentiment. In all, I just thought it was necessary to comment to counter the anti-Muslim sentiment that Nairaland has been spreading over the past few years. Thank you for your insight once again. |

Konquest:Thanks for this. Actually, this issue has been making rounds over the past four to five years. No one likes it too and we all used to condemn it and talk about how it indicates the poverty in Lagos. People even used it to mock APC at some point. The issue has to do with the lady Islamizing the whole thing and trying to attribute it to Islam. This event happens everywhere -- even in the East. |
