I see both online and offline how people freak out at the sight of a celebrity. Some even go as far as rushing or grabbing them.

I have never been to any show, let alone wanting to go up stage to grab a celebrity. I saw how a young man was kicked by Burna Boy and I felt really disgusted because such nonsense can never happen to me.

Early last year, I was on the 6th floor at BUA Group headquarters in Victoria Island where I saw Tekno and Davido sitting down at the reception having a chat, I just greeted them and sat down. I also saw how every other person on that floor was minding their business and don't really give a damn about their presence.

When I told a cousin how I feel weird on how people go crazy at the sight of these celebrities, he said it's not normal but I strongly disagree with him. I even told him how some staff at BUA Group didn't give a damn about Davido"s presence, he insisted that they are not also normal.

Do you guys here share my views, or do you think it's not normal?

Mine is not even borne out of respecting myself. I don't just feel it's worth it!

Mine is self respect.

And yes, even without the self respect, I don't think it's worth it too.

The only Nigerian artist I'll bring myself to snap pictures with is Speed Darlington aka Akpi Nwamama.

Na only that guy dey give me joy for this country.
Re: Celebrities: Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Feel This Way? by ValCon888:
I read the news here how Burna Boy ended his show because an overexcited fan climbed the stage.

After reading it, I went to my spotify app and clicked "Don't play this artist."

I think it is the height of hubris for a music artist to punish thousands of fans that paid good money to have a good time because of the sins of 1 fan.

That confirmed to me how egotistical this guy is and I blocked his music immediately.

And if you don't know, Burna Boy can never compare to Fela. Even if he wins a million Grammies he cannot lace Fela's shoes.

The impact of Fela on Nigerian society will still be felt after a hundred years. In 20 years Burna Boy will be forgotten.

One is an eternal icon while the other makes a mockery of the giants he's standing on.

I never understood celebrity worship.

I think it's mostly caused by women and men who want to impress women.
Re: Celebrities: Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Feel This Way? by trium: 3:23am On Jan 03, 2025
You respect yourself and respect the other person. I think one of life's humbling moment is when you are known here and unknown somewhere else. Aside Michael Jackson, it is difficult to recall any artiste who had such great influence and known around the world. They are human beings at the end of the day and when I love someone and their work, I respect them in person because they want to live their lives. If I don't meet them in a convenient time, I don't even bother. It's a good way of not worshipping man or material things but we can't all be same so those who are in awe are perfectly normal too.

Speaking of Burna, I don't like him. I'm surprised with how he's gotten away with sampled songs but i don't blame him for leaving the stage, safety first. He is human, there's a lot of things going hrough a public figure's life that I will never wish for that much attention and fame. It will rob you of your peace. A lot of popular people are imprisoned because of their fame. MJ was also like that. They just want to be free but the people won't let them be.

I won't be jumping upadan because of their song but because of their personality.

The only artiste/celebrity I have respect for is Davido, because I heard he is a friendly fellow.

The only foreign celebrity I have crush on is Akon because of some details I know about him.

You just haven't met your favourite celebrity yet, the one who has that effect on you.

I've also come across some celebrities and politicians before, but didn't go crazy... People would be fighting to take pictures while I'd just stand aside and watch.

But I nearly fainted because of one celebrity...🤦🤦🤦... I didn't want to go crazy, I wanted to contain myself, but my entire body was taken over by excitement.

Same here bro, where I work there was ticket for a star mega jam that year, we where all given a ticket, and I rejected mine my colleague thought I was weird that how could I reject such opportunity to be live in front row and see celebrities perform, I told them I can't go and stand and get matched at and dragged by crowd because of I want to see regular people like me,

I don't still grasp why people will pay money to go for music concert, get dragged most times lost their valuable in the crowd because they want see a celebrity, lol

The very day I saw VeryDarkman in an event in Abuja with Darey Art Alade, Jim Yke, Tuface and other celebrities, it was a big shot event, they came straight behind the scene where where sitting and having a brief meeting with the man of the hour, they all sat and we all exchange pleasantries and I saw nothing too special about them

I rather go for a comedy show where I will sit comfortable, have a good laugh with friends than going for a music show.

During the days of Nollywood. When Nollywood was still Nollywood, I saw literally all the major Nollywood actors and actresses. Cos they used to come to Ojez club at Surulere back then.

From Ramsey Naoh to Genevieve to the late Larry koldsweat, to Onyeka, DJ Jimmy jat, Tuface, kennis music owners...so many of them.

This was around 2012-2013 or thereabout. I was quite young then. They just looked like normal people to me back then. I wasn't even freaking out.

I once ran into flavor at Akanu Ibiam airport Enugu in 2021. I didn't even look at him twice sef. You see that thing called self respect, it exists 100% in my life.

So my dear op, you're completely normal. Don't mind them.

I think you're right about Davido! When I met him at a reception in Victoria Island, I was holding some leaflets. I overheard him telling Teckno that the pictures on the leaflets are very clear. He tapped me politely and said "Baba let me take a look", and I gave it to him. When they were attending to me at the inner office, he brought the leaflets to me himself thinking I forgot. When I was leaving, he requested for the contact of the leaflets designer and I gave it to him.
I think you're right about him sha

Working in my younger years, I came across so many celebs at my work. Jermiah Gyang, IcePrince & MI, Dbanj & DonJazzy, Akon, Zack Orji, tooooo many to mention and they were just another human to me. Ramsey was staying in the same neighborhood, Tony Umez was just there with his red pathfinder that year, Empress with her cutomized plate number before egbon timaya collect am back,
they all seemed like fellow humans going about their jobs and lives to me but when you see the high level of fake life most of these guys carry on their neck, you wouldn't regard them that much.

Lol.... It is normal. Abi dem no be human beings again? You better don't let people gaslight you. If you are okay and ain't looking for favor or showing off, why should you be gumming yourself to dem at the slightest opportunity.

In fact, respecting yourself and staying your lane is the first recipe for avoiding embarrassment. Small time now, dem fit accuse you say you wan tiff their phone cheesy grin

However, if you must approach dem, greet dem, and do it nicely by asking for an autograph or snap. Don't go on freaking out like girls do, because the female gender is the major culprit of this issue. Na why dem fit off pant for dem, get pregnant without even having relationship.

So you are normal my guy.

You're absolutely normal infact you also have a healthy self esteem. At the end of the day, those celebrities are just humans like you that are just famous and probably more exposed. Nothing special about them.

One white South African once did a Justin Bieber prank at a mall in Sandton city here in SA and the entire mall immediately went to a standstill, half of the mall forgot what they were doing and started running after the guy... grin grin grin... Even grown men and women started going after him...🤦🤦🤦

Security guards were also not left out, they ran after him to protect him from the crowd without verifying his identity...🤣🤣🤣... I was shocked because I didn't know my fellow South Africans are capable of such behaviour...😂😂😂
