The traditional Lagos countdown concert, which is organised by the Lagos State Government and which usually takes place from December 31st till January 1st, was held at the Tafawa Balewa Square on New Year's Eve 2024 till New Year's Day 2025.

This edition featured Wizkid, Burna Boy, Tiwa Savage, Olamide, Adewale Ayuba, Seyi Vibes, Shaffy Bello, Lojay and a host of other stars.

Events were also held in Ikorodu, Badagry and Ikeja, but the main event was at the Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.

Sanwo-Olu praises artists, residents for successful Lagos Countdown 2025

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the artists and residents who made the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 a resounding success.

In a statement posted O his X page after the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed his gratitude to the talented artists who performed at the New Year countdown, including Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Burna Boy, Olamide, Seyi Vibez, and many others.

He lauded their exceptional talent and passion, which illuminated the stage and brought immense joy to the people of Lagos.

The Governor also extended his appreciation to the residents of Lagos, who came together in unity to celebrate the start of a new year.

He noted that the event showcased the true spirit of Lagos, highlighting the city’s vibrant energy and the resilience of its people.

He wrote on X: “Last night, Lagos came alive in a way that only Lagos can! The energy at the Greater Lagos Countdown 2025 was electric, with the vibrant spirit of our people shining through every moment. It was a celebration like no other. Lagos is home.

The #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 was a multi-location event, held across five major locations in the state, including Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos Island, and Epe.

The main stage was located at Tafawa Balewa Square on Lagos Island.

Kamaru Usman was in Lagos because the mixed martial art promotion that he owns, the African Knock Out (AKO) staged fights at the Landmark Events Centre during the Christmas holidays. He took the opportunity to attend the Greater Lagos 2025 Countdown concert.

A fan ran onto the stage near the end of Burna Boy's performance. Burna Boy looked like he was getting ready to fight the fan, but a security guard quickly intercepted the fan and threw him off the stage. Burna Boy then ended his performance early.

Burna Boy later took to his Instagram stories to apologise for kicking the fan.

A fan threw water at Wizkid and Wizkid warned him. A security guard was about to intervene, but Wizkid stopped him and grabbed his towel.

The fan threw water at Wizkid again and Wizkid used the towel to hit him.

That's Yoruba Lagos trying to bring back the dead career of an Igbo boy.....they all come here and start screaming about yorubas being tribalist and how much they hate Igbos.....don jazzy speaks Yoruba like no tomorrow,if he wasn't accommodated,he wouldn't have been able to achieve what he did,olumide and phyno are best buddies till tomorrow ,davido chose Chioma over several girls from his tribe,yet yorubas hate Igbos......seyi tinubu is married to an half Igbo lady,Ben akabueze was tinubu's budget man while he was gov and even after.....so many igbo business men still appreciate tinubu for what he did to promote business in Lagos regardless of tribe.
