Breaking: Ogun State Overtakes Kano In Poverty Rate by OfficialAPCNig(op): 8:05am On Jan 03, 2025
The recently released Multidimensional Poverty Rate across the 36 states shows that Ogun has a higher Multidimensional Poverty Rate than Kano.

There is no way you can tax (IGR) your people to death and don't expect them to be poor.

For context, IMO state GDP is nearly twice bigger than that of Ogun state, yet the latter (Ogun) generate more GDP than the entire SE.

Also, the average daily trade volume in Kano is around N20 billion, that over N7 trillion yearly, but Ogun generates far bigger IGR.

These show that Ogun state is over taxing their citizens to massage their ego as the second largest IGR generator.

At the end where does it lead them?

Over 68% Multidimensional Poverty Rate, about 2% more than Kano.

Ogun Multidimensional Poverty Rate means that 7 in every 10 persons living in Ogun state are not just poor, but multidimensionally poor.

Our Yoruba brothers can do better

I visited Ogun State before the New Year, and it became painfully clear that the Nigerian state is a gaping void of desperation, dysfunction, and decay—a barren landscape of inefficiency where potential is perpetually suffocated by mediocrity and corruption.

it’s an unapologetically broken entity.

A southern state doing better than another southern state is not news. It's expected.

But a southern state with the second highest IGR have a higher Multidimensional Poverty Rate than a Northern state a lot of Southerners always insult is unacceptable.

Says someone from Ebonyi and by the way what’s remarkably different between Enugu’s and Ogun’s?

On the average, the SW has the least poverty rate in Nigeria

Ondo and Lagos are doing better than all the SE states and if they removed all the five plot economic refugees in Lagos and Ogun, the poverty rates will drop by half

Kano state population = 16.2 million people. MDP rate = 66.3%. Actual people living in multidimensional poverty in Kano is 16.2m x 0.663 = 10.7 Million people.

Ogun state population = 6.3 million people. MDP rate = 68.1%. Actual people living in multidimensional poverty in Ogun state is 6.3m x 0.681 = 4.29 million.

While 10.7 million people are living in Multidimensional poverty in Kano state, 4.29million people are living in multidimensional poverty in Ogun state.

What has my comment got to do with the north. At least I have states in the SW that are doing far better than any state in the north. But to see that there's no South East state doing better than Ondo is a shame. You get it now? wink

And 3 people like this dumb post. I thought you're an auditor or something. How can you be so inept with statistics. What point does your mathematical conversion prove?
You don't realize that 4.29 is closer to 6.3 than 10 is to 16?
Let's flip it over. The number of people living above poverty in Ogun from your maths is thus 2.1m while the number of people above poverty in Kano is 6m.
In other words Kano has thrice the number of people living above poverty than Ogun.
