abduleez1:Superman actually has the potential to make a billion esp if it's as good as GOTG 🤷🏾♂️. Movies that would definitely make a billion is just 4 - Avatar, Zootopia 2, Michael, Jurassic World Maybes are Minecraft, Superman, F4 |

Illusioneffect:Yeah, SUPERMAN has the billion dollar potential. That's why I said, my estimations are conservative. With best case scenarios of $500mn+ US domestic, firmly puts in the billion dollar conversation. |

Challengers......7/10 It's a nice sports focused erotic drama with a love triangle as the central story. The three leads in Mike Faist, Josh O Connor and Zendaya were generally good in there portrayal. But seriously man, it's becoming more noticeable how Zendaya just can't emote. Has a single look and performance across different roles. 😥 Her most convincing and memorable character so far for me still remains her role in Euphoria. Dunno how I really feel about this movie with the woman manipulating two men for a decade, but it was enjoyable watching. |

The Six Triple Eight(2024):6.9/10 This biopics tells the inspiring story of the 6888th Battalion, the only all-Black, all-female unit in WWII. Good: The storyline is powerful and sheds light on an important part of history I never knew happened until now. Kerry Washington’s performance as Major Charity Adams really stands out—she brings depth and emotion to the role. The soundtrack, especially the song “The Journey” by H.E.R., fits perfectly with the film's tone and adds to the emotional weight. Bad: While the story is strong, the dialogue sometimes feels a little overly dramatic and forced. The pacing also drags, which makes the film less engaging at times. On top of that, the production quality, including the sets and makeup, doesn’t always hit the mark and can make the film feel less convincing. A great effort to honor history, but it’s not as well-made as other top biopics like Hidden Figures or Selma.

Juror № 2......8/10 This is supposed to be Clint Eastwood's final movie. It's a good watch. I really enjoyed the whole ride. I'm beginning to find court dramas really entic!ng. One of the few subgenres that has never failed me in these past few years. It's a look into the cr!minal justice system of America; and a fight for morality when a juror finds himself embroiled in a court case for the mu®der of a woman over a year ago. Does he tell the truth and help the seemingly innocent accused or watch how things play out and justice served?? It gave me another fresh look at Nicolas Hoult and gives me a little more confidence he might actually pull off Lex Luthor in SUPERMAN. |

BLITZ.......6/10 It's a mostly boring affair about world war II in the eyes of a small London boy not wanting to be separated from his mom amidst all the chaos and destruction by the war. Too slow paced and uneventful I feel the runtime could have been compressed into 1hr30mins and you wouldn't miss much. It's a promising story but execution wasn't it's strongest trait. Imagine spending over one month to finish watching this. Saoirse Ronan wasn't enough to glue my attention to this. Really surprised how this one is tipped as an awards contender this season. Most likely due to the director Steve McQueen at the helm. |

Ishilove:The role of the 6888 Battalion in World War II may seem insignificant at first glance, but their impact on the war effort was really great. As depicted in the movie, maintaining correspondence between soldiers and their loved ones was crucial for their emotional well-being and morale. Imagine being on the front lines, unable to communicate with family, friends and that special person in your life. The emotional toll would be overwhelming, affecting one's ability to perform duties effectively. The movie sheds light on the pivotal contributions of Black women during this transformative moment in history. Despite facing racism and sexism, these women persevered, playing an essential yet uncelebrated role in the war effort. Their story is a testament to the power of resilience and determination in the face of adversity. The Ogas at the top really wanted them to fail so that they could spite Rosevett for being sympathetic to the blacks. Their story is also a sobering reminder of the systemic racism and sexism that persisted during World War II. Despite being part of the war effort, these women faced discrimination and marginalization. Lastly, the story of these black ladies is one of courage, resilience, and determination. Their legacy serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of giving honor to whom honor is due, regardless of their background or circumstances. |

majesticguy:As someone who actually knows and have read about the 6888 battalion extensively before Netflix thought of making a story about it - I can totally tell you they had almost zero significance in the course of the war- firstly, they couldn't even finalise their actual jobs because almost every letter and parcel did not get to the soldiers before the end of the war so the war was already ending before the soldiers received their letters. Also, the allied forces were already significantly winning around 1944 when they started their assignment. the only reason they were even chosen was because of their skin colour not because of their parcel expertise - anyone would have done the job they did unlike actual soldiers in the front lines and even women soldiers, nurses and doctors who acted not because of they were chosen but because they volunteered. Netflix making a film about postal workers who had no actual significance in the war because they're black women is a big disgrace to this country's veterans who put their lives on the line and get absolutely no recognition in my opinion and flat out racism. They over emotionalise and dramaticized the whole story like the women were strong willed or something😂 when they were just regular women doing their jobs. |

Illusioneffect:Una too like arguments for this thread. I rarely do this but I'd indulge you on this one. It's fascinating how "extensive reading" can sometimes omit key facts about the 6888th Battalion. While I admit I only learned about them through the movie, a little digging revealed their profound impact during WWII. Let’s address your points one by one starting with the quote above. Maintaining morale during wartime is critical, and letters from loved ones play a big role in this. The 6888th tackled a 17 million-piece backlog of mail in just three months, working in terrible conditions like cold, rat-infested warehouses. Their efficiency far exceeded expectations. Like I said earlier, back then, if you are in the front line, a letter from home can mean a lot. https://www.archives.gov/news/articles/six-triple-eight - firstly, they couldn't even finalise their actual jobsFact check: Incorrect. The 6888th cleared the backlog twice—first in Birmingham, England, and then in Rouen, France—ahead of schedule. Yes, the war was nearing its end, but their work ensured soldiers received these morale-boosting letters even as the conflict wound down https://www.nps.gov/articles/000/6888th.htm the only reason they were even chosen was because of their skin colourIrrespective of the fact the military’s segregation policies were undoubtedly flawed, the 6888th was assembled because of their capability and resilience. And let’s not downplay the institutional barriers these women broke in a racist and sexist military system. They didn’t just get “chosen”; they had to fight for the opportunity to serve https://www.armyupress.army.mil/Journals/Military-Review/English-Edition-Archives/Jan-Feb-2019/Warrington-Mail anyone would have done the job they didPoint of correction, black women volunteered and went through the same training school and were as qualified as their white counterparts but were often excluded from leadership roles, relegated to menial tasks, and subjected to harsher discipline and scrutiny compared to their White counterparts. https://www.iowapbs.org/iowapathways/mypath/2435/female-black-officers-train-des-moines-world-war-ii?utm_source=chatgpt.com#popup-container Netflix making a film about postal workers who had no actual significance in the war because they're black women is a big disgrace to this country's veterans who put their lives on the line and get absolutely no recognition in my opinion and flat out racism.Calling this a disgrace is ironic when the 6888th was ignored for decades while other veterans were lauded. It took until 2022 for them to receive the Congressional Gold Medal https://people.com/was-the-six-triple-eight-real-8758494 . If anything, the film sheds light on a story long buried under the contributions of others, not diminishing their efforts. They over emotionalise and dramaticized the whole story like the women were strong willed or something😂 when they were just regular women doing their jobs.Of course, movies dramatize; that’s what movies do and yes from what I have learnt so far, Tyler Perry went overboard as the film's over-dramatization, factual inaccuracies, and lackluster production quality ultimately compromised the true legacy of these pioneering women. But dismissing their determination as mere "regular women doing their jobs" is disingenuous. These were trailblazers, handling a mission that directly influenced soldier morale. Without them, those letters may have never reached their intended recipients. In conclusion the 6888th is proof that there are many ways to serve in war. Not all heroes hold rifles; some hold mailbags. |

They also seem extremely proud to spew anti-black right-wing rhetoric about themselves ![]() WTF ![]() |
| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by majesticguy: 11:06am On Jan 04, 2025 |
Ojagun:Exactly! It’s heartbreaking how quick some are to dismiss or diminish the legacy and achievements of Black individuals no matter how small. These were individuals who dared to excel in a world that tried to erase them you can't even imagine the sh.it the black community went through during that era. The 6888th isn’t just a story about sorting mail—it’s about courage, resilience, and breaking barriers when the odds were stacked sky-high against them. According to Marcus Garvey, he said and I quote The Black Man Is His Own Worst Enemy, he is jealous of himself, envious and covetous. This is an undisputed fact. |

You are better off binning his posts All he is doing is regurgitating talking points of white boys who cannot deal with the fact that there are movies where white guys are not the protagonists. Who were those cleaners and coffee getters in that ridiculous movie hidden figures? The real work was done by the glorious white men. The women were inconsequential DEI hires.
