Josepholome:Just one so-called ''Detty December'' in Lagos. Let us see how we are able to sustain it going forward. Ghana has been doing this for many years with foreigners (both Africans and non-Africans) from all over the world troop there every December. Rita Marley, Steve Wonder and a host of American and foreign stars today have Ghanaian citizenships and/or spend holiday in Ghana every year. |

How can a December be "Detty" without SPENDING?? Pounds, Euros, Dollars moving left, right and center; such a jolly good time for the Nigerian economy and businesses. |

babajero:Favorable exchange rate, expanding global music and film industry, and many other factors. Also a moderately safe SW especially Lagos is also a factor. Safety is key for any visitor and investor. Hopefully, the rest of the country can be as safe as Lagos and the SW soon. A favorable exchange rate is also used by Americans to decide on where to visit for summer travel, fewer Americans will visit any country where their dollars is of less value, and they will often visit countries where their dollars will go far. That's just the reality of life and it has been like that for generations. People look for value and Nigeria with the exchange rate is giving visitors more value for their money. For example, I love and enjoy visiting Istanbul partly because my dollars will go a long way while I don't care for Paris and other European countries because my dollars don't go far. |

Dittodat:Only Apc online zombies and happy slaves believe this. This submission has no bearing with the Reality on the streets of Nija. Beans is selling for ₦9500 per paint, even me wey dey sell sef dey pity buyers bcus the rate at which Tpain destroyed this Country is very unimaginable. It note worthy that Apc zombies only operate online, you will hardly see one in real life aside thugs, cultists and touts. |

Queenjoyce405:Ode! Yes, you are the only one who truly feel so highly active. What are the effects of the ones they have been rolling out since they assumed office? If at your age you don’t know that all they have been doing is trial and error, then you need to find out why you were born without brains. It’s not too late to go for treatment. Werey ! |

Detty December is only possible because the Naira has fallen to never before seen lows. So while life is much tougher for salary earners and small business owners (who are not into hospitality), it is sweeter for those who live abroad. If you had sense, you would know that Tourism based on the impoverishing of the citizens is not sustainable. Detty December doesn't really change the dynamics of Nigerian economy as it's just 31days of spending on entertainment, hospitality, food and Uber- that doesn't make up for the rest of the year for these businesses nor does it impact those who are not involved in any of the ancillary sectors Tayorshd87: |

ImoleNaija:For your side.....lagos was unusually busy this December like never before and the currency devaluation was a major factor......$1k is about 1.6m that's huge for anyone coming from abroad....this are some of the advantages of devaluation....also look at the real estate sector, who are those buying and building. It's not enough for obidients to keep complaining about how much they hate tinubu,it's about you positioning yourself and being smart to cash in on the boom. |
| Re: The Economics Of Detty December by Lithiumite: 6:58pm On Jan 03, 2025 |
babajero:Nigerians have a natural unbridled appetite for going outside the country, about the highest in Africa.....since you can't stop them why not harness the advantages from such emigration rather than keep crying about it....that is a smart move by cities who are tapping into the economic potential. |
